Lee and Rosemary are knee-deep in preparations for the grand opening of the National Park in Hope Valley, causing Lee some stress. Rosemary tells him that all is well and reminds him that Elizabeth is returning this weekend.
In Cape Fullerton, Elizabeth and Nathan eagerly await their return to Hope Valley with their family after spending the summer with Charlotte Thornton. Allie walks in with Mr. Skeet Rivington, who is telling a story about his nephew in the Air Force.
Elizabeth picks up the phone, and it’s Lucas. He informs Elizabeth that there are delays with the insulin approval. There is a train strike so the inspector can’t make it to Hope Valley. Lucas ensures her there is enough insulin for them to still return for the weekend but warns Elizabeth that this could go on to next Spring. This means Elizabeth, Nathan and their family need to plan on staying in Cape Fullerton until then. Allie is upset that she will have to start the school year there.
Charlotte enters the room and assures them they may stay in Cape Fullerton with her for as long as they need. She also pulls Nathan aside and praises him, telling him she is grateful that he is her grandson’s father. She also jokes about him proposing to Elizabeth and laughingly warns him not to mess it up with her.
They all return to Hope Valley and are excitedly welcomed back by the townspeople. They inform every one of the bad news about the insulin inspector, but Elizabeth says they should focus on enjoying the weekend and that they plan to move back soon.
Nathan is greeted by Bill and Oliver, who has grown a mustache. Nathan says they both have good taste in deciding to grow them. He also jokes to Allie and Oliver about the letters they have been exchanging.
Lee and Henry meet up just outside of Hope Valley’s first ever stoplight, which is almost ready to be presented to the town. Lee thanks Henry for his son Christopher’s work in helping build the light. Christopher arrives in town with his boss from the electric company, who he introduces to Henry and Lee. Lee tells them he is excited to see how electricity is going to transform the playhouse.
Elizabeth, Nathan and Little Jack visit the clinic. Other than the insulin approval, they have everything ready to go to help Little Jack. Elizabeth graciously thanks them and tells them she hopes everything will work out.
In the town center, everyone gathers for the unveiling of the stoplight. Elizabeth runs into Minnie and asks if she can take over her classroom until she is back. Minnie says she’ll discuss it with Joseph, but she would love to help. Lee steps up to the podium and announces Hope Valley’s first ever traffic signal. Christopher walks up to Little Jack and asks him to help pull the lever. Rosemary drives through to demonstrate and the light works perfectly.
Bill notices A.J. McGinty watching over and goes over to talk to him. Mr. McGinty expresses his distaste for the changes the town is incorporating. He threatens Bill, saying “see how this works out for you.”
Lucas drives into town and accidentally runs the red light of the new stoplight. Nathan warns him and says he will let him off the hook, but Lucas insists no man is above the law. Nathan thanks him for his help with the insulin clinic while writing up a ticket for him.
Lucas runs into Edie in his office, since Lee told her she could use it while Lucas was gone. Lucas offers for them to share the space and invites her to lunch. She tells him that she has plans with the ladies.
Elizabeth stops by the stable on her way to delivering lesson plans to Minnie. Nathan comforts Elizabeth as she tells him about how much she misses home. They share a loving kiss.
Joseph is delighted by the news that Minnie is going to fill in for Elizabeth as a teacher. Minnie tells him she is a bit concerned she is taking on too much, but Joseph reassures her that he and everyone else will help out.
Christopher meets up with his dad Henry and they catch up. Christopher tells him about how he likes the work and sees it as an opportunity to turn things around for himself. Henry is proud of him but reminds him he is more than just his job.
Lucas talks to Lee about the mixed signals he is getting from Edie. Meanwhile, the ladies ask Edie about her relationship with Lucas. Lee advises Lucas to be honest with Edie.
Elizabeth goes to the school to drop the lessons plans off and sees Toby, one of the students, working on his National Park guidebook assignment. He is having a tough time writing the assignment, and she helps inspire him. Minnie arrives and tells Elizabeth that they will all miss her while she is gone.
On her way out, Elizabeth runs into Allie, who asks if she can read Elizabeth her guidebook assignment. Elizabeth is touched and comforts Allie about her frustration with having to return to Cape Fullerton.
Allie meets up with Oliver and is surprised to see he shaved his mustache. She invites Oliver to join some of their other friends on a hike to check the trail markers at the park.
Elizabeth tells Nathan she thinks he should stay in Hope Valley with Allie. Nathan insists that they are in this together. Elizabeth tells him that they will be fine but she thinks it is for the best.
Nathan goes to Rosemary for advice. Rosemary says they need to be more like Elizabeth and find a way. Nathan gets an idea and runs out. He calls Charlotte and asks him to wake up Mr. Rivington.
The next day, the kids all turn in their guidebooks. Elizabeth sees that Nathan has shaved his mustache and asks if he is staying. He chuckles and walks off.
Rosemary and Lee are outside the park to take a family photo. Rosemary shares that she saw a negative article in the paper about the playhouse. Lee reassures her and tells her that the playhouse is going to be amazing. They share a sweet kiss.
Everyone in the town is taken aback as a plane flies over Hope Valley. The whole town gathers where the plane lands. A man comes out of the plane and asks for Dr. Carter. He introduces himself as an inspector from the Department of Health. It turns out Nathan called Mr. Rivington about his nephew in the Air Force and got him to fly in the inspector. The clinic passes the inspection, meaning that Elizabeth, Nathan and their family can all stay in Hope Valley.
Bill catches Oliver on his way to meet up with Allie for the hike. He tells Oliver he can stay with him, now that Nathan is staying in town. He also assigns Oliver to watch over the Visitor’s Center, especially since Mr. McGinty’s threat. Allie and her friends meet for the hike and head off without Oliver since he can no longer make it.
The townspeople notice smoke in the distance, coming from the park. With the kids out on a hike in that direction, the Mounties rush off to investigate.
