Nathan harvests a handful of aster flowers and arranges them in a vase. Allie notices them and Nathan tells her they are Elizabeth’s favorite and he waited for them to be in bloom. He tells Allie that he’s almost ready to propose, he is just waiting for the trial. They go over the proposal plan. Allie is going to babysit LJ so that Nathan and Elizabeth can be alone.
When Elizabeth and LJ arrive, Elizabeth asked Florence to cover for her at the schoolhouse so that she can support Nathan during the trial day. She asks if Nathan noticed the aster flower bloom, to which he says yes.
Bill and Georgie are reviewing the case before entering the trial. Bill surprises Georgie with homemade waffles. She warns him that they should stay focused on the trial, despite how much she loves the waffles. Nathan arrives and mentions that he wishes they still had Christopher as a witness.
At the schoolhouse, Toby, Cooper, and Rupert tell LJ about their plans to go on a hike. He asks to join and the boys tell him to ask Elizabeth.
Lucas runs into Elizabeth at the saloon while she is putting up flyers for the Harvest Festival. She asks Lucas if he can do his magic act at the festival, but he needs to focus on his campaign and apologizes. He expresses his nervousness surrounding the campaign, so Elizabeth reminds him how great of a job he has done. He takes a Harvest Festival Flyer from Elizabeth as she leaves the saloon.
Minnie tells Joseph that she is planning on attending the trial. He says he doesn’t want to go after everything Pioneer Electric did to Cooper. Minnie wants to go so she can see justice being served.
The townspeople arrive and the trial begins. Bill starts with his opening statement. He focuses on reminding the courtroom about how devastating the fire was for the county, especially those from Benson Hills. He strongly claims that justice must be served.
Pioneer Electric’s lawyer responds, highlighting that Christopher, the lead witness, is nowhere to be seen.
Nathan then takes the stand to tell the story from his side. He exposes Pioneer for forcing Christopher to cover up the remains of the transformer. Bill presents Christopher’s signed written testimony. Nathan then reveals that they believe Pioneer Electric’s map is fraudulent, causing the courtroom to gasp.
Nathan then brings up the incident of a car trying to run over him and Christopher. Pioneer’s lawyer emphasizes that coincidences are not evidence.
Georgie is then called to the stand to talk about their encounter with Clement Scoggins. While they were able to listen in to Scoggins’ phone call to Pioneer, the judge reminds them that it’s not concrete evidence.
The trial pauses for the day. Georgie tries to encourage Bill, who is reflecting on how tough Pioneer’s lawyer is. Georgie reminds him that they still haven’t brought forth their evidence of collusion between Pioneer and National Insurance. They make plans to spend the rest of the day preparing more for the case today.
Lucas and Maisie Hickam meet to practice for Lucas’ upcoming campaign debate. She begins to ask him mock questions about the Benson Hills rebuild. The questions get progressively more difficult, and Lucas begins to stumble. Maisie tells him that she likes how he has governed, but he needs to be prepared for people to challenge him. She advises him to start loving “the game,” referring to politics, or to find something else.
At home, LJ tells everyone about the hike with the boys from school to see the valley from above. After learning it is a camping trip, Elizabeth and Nathan tell LJ that he can’t go. Allie tries to cheer him up, saying that they can hang out together instead. LJ frustratedly runs upstairs and Elizabeth follows him.
The trial resumes. Whittaker takes the stand and Bill begins to question him. Whittaker mentions that there was a controlled burn that caused the fire. Little does he know that the Mounties planted this information to prove collusion. Bill immediately exposes him and proclaims that he only could have received that information through illegal communication with National Insurance.
Rosemary then takes the stand. She passionately explains how she helped prove the collusion between Pioneer and National Insurance. The townspeople begin applauding as she continues to expose them.
The judge calls a recess and asks to speak with Bill and Pioneer’s lawyer privately. Bill confidently explains how their “drip test” worked perfectly, demonstrating collusion. The lawyer argues that the drip test is entrapment, arguing it should be inadmissible.
At the saloon, Nathan informs Elizabeth that the judge ruled the drip test as inadmissible, meaning it can’t be treated as evidence. Nathan says that Bill is going to put out a higher reward for Christopher’s missing person report. Nathan is worried about putting Christopher in danger. Elizabeth suggests she has one more idea.
Elizabeth arrives at Henry’s farm. She asks him about Christopher and offers another way to reach out to him.
Henry arrives at Rosemary’s radio station. Live on-air, Henry sends out a heartfelt message to Christopher, hoping he will hear it and come home.
While walking through town, Rosemary and Elizabeth bump into Lucas, who seems to be in good spirits. Rosemary asks about his debate preparations, which he says are going well. He asks Elizabeth if the offer to do his magic act at the Harvest Festival is still on the table, to which she happily says yes.
As Pioneer’s lawyer is putting in his concluding statement, Christopher barges into the courtroom holding a box, his clothes dirty and disheveled. The audience gasps. He approaches the judge and informs him that he is carrying the remains of the transformer. Pioneer’s lawyer tries to sway the judge into dismissing Christopher for interrupting, but the judge allows Christopher to say his piece.
Christopher emphasizes everything in his written testimony and offers to take the stand to answer any questions. The judge states that it won’t be necessary, as he has already reached his final verdict: Pioneer Electric is guilty.
A party is hosted at the saloon. The townspeople share glasses of champagne to celebrate. Christopher apologizes to Nathan, but Nathan tells Christopher that he understands that he was scared for his life. Christopher then thanks Henry, saying that helped him have the confidence to return home. Henry then advises him to reach out to his fiancée Rachel now that everything is over.
Nathan asks Elizabeth if he can cook her dinner. He informs her that Allie can watch LJ so it’s just the two of them.
Georgie finds Bill to praise him for how the trial went. She then grabs his arm and gathers everyone’s attention. She publicly thanks him for everything he did on the case. As the audience applauds, Georgie grabs Bill and kisses him in front of everyone.
Still at the party, Christopher finds Minnie and Joseph. Minnie thanks him for what he did at the trial. Christopher apologizes profusely for what he put their family through. Minnie comforts him and tells him that she understands. He reaches his hand out to Joseph, who refuses to shake his hand.
Nathan is in the kitchen, visibly struggling to make dinner. Elizabeth offers to help but he insists he is fine. He hands her a plate of food and offers a toast to justice and everything falling into place. Nathan tells her about the moment he fell in love with her, when Allie skipped school and he was called in to talk to her. He remembers how sweet she was. Nathan reaches for his back pocket before being interrupted by a knock at the front door.
Allie barges in to tell them that LJ got stuck in a tree while climbing. Thankfully, he isn’t hurt, but Nathan and Elizabeth rush out to help.
Nathan helps catch LJ as he drops from the tree. Luckily, he only has a small scrape on his elbow. LJ tells Elizabeth that he wanted to see the valley from above. Elizabeth warns him that he could have gotten hurt and can’t do dangerous things like that. He runs off after yelling that he can never do anything.
At their café, Cooper asks his father Joseph why he didn’t shake Christopher’s hand. Joseph explains the complexity of the situation. Cooper reminds Joseph about his previous sermon about forgiveness. Joseph admits that he agrees with what he said as a pastor, but it’s hard to forgive when he is a father and his family is involved. They hug and Joseph tells Cooper that he is proud of him and he loves him.
Henry and Christopher walk through the woods together. Henry takes him to a part of the woods where the trees are beginning to regrow after the fire. Christopher understands that the trees are a metaphor for things getting better over time. Henry agrees but also explains that he is going to need to put in a lot of effort to make up for everything that happened. He agrees and seems determined to make things right. Henry reminds Christopher how much he believes in him and that he will always be there to support him.
Nathan arrives at Elizabeth’s home to check on LJ. Elizabeth shares her uncertainty about how she is parenting LJ. She is afraid he is holding him back. Nathan reminds her that she is just keeping him safe, and to trust her instincts. She thanks him for always being there for her. Elizabeth asks if they can try doing dinner together again tomorrow.
Nathan arrives home to Allie doing the dishes. Nathan tells her she can go to bed, and he can finish cleaning up. He tells Allie that they are like aster flowers; the opportunity isn’t gone and it’s never too late.
