Elizabeth journals about the magical sense of possibility in the autumn air. Allie and Oliver follow the map in the woods, exploring together. Rosemary opens a package of play scripts delivered to her at the mercantile with Minnie, as Lee took Rosemary to a performance of “The Importance of Being Earnest” and it inspired her to put on her own show that she will direct, produce and star in. Elizabeth herself wrote a guide for her new curriculum with Fiona’s encouragement, and Fiona wants to send it to publishers and other educators. Elizabeth says that everything with her and Nathan feels new and exciting and they’re enjoying every moment. She shares a kiss with him outside.
At the saloon, Ava sings “Ain’t We Got Fun” as she delivers drinks to customers’ tables. Lee and Hickam review the numbers and say that Ava’s tab is too expensive to support. They wonder if Ava’s parents are really supposed to arrive soon as she claims. Lee shows Rosemary the printed copies of audition notices for the play that she’s casting for, and Mike says that he was thinking about auditioning. She says he should, and he relays that Ava was interested as well. Ava tries to approach Rosemary, but Rosemary hurries out the doorto distribute flyers. Elizabeth enters and asks Lee if he got “them,” and Lee tells her they were hard to come by but he did; he hands Elizabeth a small brown envelope.
Nathan comes to Elizabeth’s with two surprise train tickets to Union City that she left on his desk. She says to try to trust her, but he tickles her to get the plan out of her. She reveals that they’re going to the new Buster Keaton movie at The Palace later that day; she’s arranged childcare and a taxi is coming later to pick them up. Nathan kisses Elizabeth and leaves to get ready.
At the mercantile, Ned studies the script for “The Importance of Being Earnest” for Rosemary’s play audition. Fiona tells someone on the other line of the phone that she will consult with Mr. Weaver and get back to them. Elizabeth enters with copies of her curriculum ready to mail out. Fiona mentions that sometimes you should query a publisher first before mailing the entire manuscript, but that it’s good to be bold. Elizabeth hears this and leaves to work more on the curriculum before mailing them out.
Hickam theatrically auditions for Rosemary and Elizabeth at the schoolhouse; after he stutters a bit, Rosemary ushers him off the stage. Rosemary laments to Elizabeth that she can’t find the right actor for Algernon, as Mike takes the stage to try again. Rosemary promises Hickam that he was great, but wonders to Elizabeth about who in this town is “swashbuckling” and “bold” enough for the Algernon character. Elizabeth whispers something in Rosemary’s ear and she’s excited; they leave to find out if “he” will do.
Allie and Oliver review their map together at Bill’s office. Bill encourages them to take their findings right to the Governor, and they leave to do so. Nathan enters and Bill fills him in that per a report from Inspector McGill, two double headed eagle coins - like the one they have - have shown up in Amsterdam. Rosemary enters and overhears; she notes that it still doesn’t address where the Garrison gang hid the rest of the gold. Rosemary thinks they should get the public involved and sponsor a Valley-wide treasure hunt, but they think it’s too much publicity. Rosemary then asks Bill about a British accent he once took on undercover, and he shows it off to the two of them. Rosemary declares that Bill will be her Algernon and he reluctantly agrees.
Joseph and Henry work on props and sets for Rosemary’s play together at the schoolhouse. Joseph tells Henry that Minnie and the choir are always looking for good soloists. Joseph sings as they work.
Edwin lets Allie and Oliver into Lucas’s office to speak with him about the cattle crossing. They present their maps suggesting that the cattle take a different route to a larger body of water to save the stream from contamination. Lucas tells them that they make a great team and asks to keep the map.
Nathan and Elizabeth enjoy their night at the movie in Union City and share a dance while Nathan sings outside of the theater. Toddy Davis notices Nathan, calling him “Danny.” He mentions that he just got back from the Netherlands with quite the haul of collectibles. Toddy’s wife Trudy joins them and encourages Toddy to invite “Danny” and “Diane” up to their party. They try to turn down the invitation but are corralled into getting into the car and joining the party.
Rosemary gets distracted with Ned by the props amidst rehearsals at the schoolhouse, so Ava chimes in to help Bill, Lee, and Mike run lines. Ava tells Rosemary that she knows the script from a production in the past and wants be involved. Rosemary says that Ava can be in charge of props, but for the rehearsal only.
Nathan and Elizabeth change into party clothes at Toddy and Trudy’s and they join in on the party. Nathan brings Elizabeth up to speed on the Toddy case and his identity. Trudy gets Elizabeth to dance and Nathan and Toddy join in. Trudy asks Elizabeth how she met Nathan, but Elizabeth deflects and asks how she and Toddy met.
Lucas enters the café and approaches Edie with the map of the land that Allie and Oliver made. Edie encourages Lucas to take the next steps to draft it as a proposal. Lucas asks for her help with the legal language, but Edie says that she’s late for a meeting and leaves before they can have dinner together.
Back at the party, Elizabeth and Nathan struggle to get their story straight about their relationship. Elizabeth and Nathan tell Toddy and Trudy that their song is “You Made Me Love You,” so Trudy tells them to sing it on stage for the party. They do so and the crowd applauds.
Edie comes to Lucas’s office later that night at the saloon as he drafts the land proposal. She presents a deck of cards and asks if he wants to play a game with her.
Lee and Rosemary discuss the play as they do the dishes at their house. Rosemary laments that there are more roles to fill and Lee wonders why she doesn’t cast Ava, who seems to know the material so well. Rosemary claims that Ava is so dramatic and takes up all the oxygen in the room, but soon reveals that she feels a little threatened by her. Lee assures Rosemary that she is brilliant and that there is no one like her, and she thanks him for always standing by her. They say they love one another and share a kiss.
At the saloon, Lucas beats Edie in gin and tells her that she has a tell: fiddling with her ring finger. He believes that she didn’t come just to play cards. She asks him to drop the land proposal, as it would save a lot of people a lot of trouble, including him. Lucas inquires as to where this is coming from but Edie says it’s a matter of attorney-client privilege. She says they can still be friends playing cards, and they continue playing.
Back at the party, Toddy tells Nathan that he might have something for the eccentric and wealthy “client” that Nathan describes to him. Toddy flashes Nathan a 24-carat pocket watch with the same double-headed eagle medallion design as the gold coin. Toddy claims that he got of these from a rancher in one of the valleys past Benson Hills. The rancher had gotten his hands on a case of them, but he died last year. Toddy tells Nathan that he could sell him a few, and Nathan says he’ll talk to his “guy.”
Rosemary looks at old articles about her acting in “Miss Innocence” and tries on old prop gloves. Lee asks for her help, and she puts the gloves down and joins him.
Mei joins Fiona as she waits at the salon for a call from Mr. Weaver about whether or not he has accepted the offer on the salon. Mei wonders if Fiona is ready to let go of this place, and Fiona says she isn’t, and that she still doesn’t know what to say to the marriage proposal. Fiona never dreamt of her wedding or the perfect life, and Mei says that Fiona has a spark, and she should follow it. The phone rings, and Mr. Weaver tells Fiona he is accepting the offer on the salon. Mei tells Fiona that as one adventure ends, another begins. She leaves the salon and hangs a “SOLD” sign on the door.
Elizabeth tells Rosemary about their night and their performance as Danny and Diane DeMarco. Rosemary wonders to Elizabeth if she finds it odd that this heiress from Baltimore, Ava Riella, is running around town like a one-woman Vaudeville act. Elizabeth reminds Rosemary that she did something a bit similar when she first arrived in town. Elizabeth then tells Rosemary that she finally did send her curriculum in the mail – “leap and the net will appear.” Rosemary says she will offer Ava a role in her play, too. They cheers their tea cups to “more adventure.”
