Elizabeth is greeted downstairs by Charlotte, who cooked a beautiful breakfast feast for the family. Elizabeth asks Charlotte if she wants to join her and LJ to visit Jack’s grave later. Charlotte declines and says she already offered to help Florence with her garden.
As soon as he sees Florence leave the shop, Nathan rushes over to talk to Ned in private. He tells Ned that he is looking for an engagement ring but makes Ned promise that he will keep it a secret. Ned agrees and asks for Elizabeth’s ring size, to which Nathan responds that he doesn’t know it. Ned laughs and tells Nathan he needs to use his Mountie skills to find a way to get it discreetly. As Florence is returning, Nathan emphasizes to Ned to keep things secret.
While they are walking through town together, Elizabeth notices that Nathan is in an especially good mood. They jokingly sing and dance through town and Nathan continuously tries to inspect Elizabeth’s ring from Jack, which she now wears on her other hand. Elizabeth reminds him of their dinner plans and he heads to work.
At the police station, Nathan, Bill and Georgie meet to go over where they are at with the fire investigation. While their case is strong, Nathan still believes it doesn’t fully prove collusion between National Insurance and Pioneer Electric. Bill emphasizes that Georgie is a force to be reckoned with in court. Nathan suggests a “drip test” to strengthen their case. To prove that they are colluding, he proposes that they feed false information to one of the companies and see if it finds its way to the other. They all agree that Rosemary would be a good mole to recruit for the job.
Rosemary enthusiastically accepts. Their plan is to have her meet with National Insurance to place a false tip that would exonerate Pioneer Electric. Hopefully, Pioneer will the inform the police of the new information to cover their tracks.
Mike surprises Mei with some fresh blueberry muffins. He notices a beautiful homemade bowl depicting the Great Wall of China and asks about it. She tells him that she made it herself. Seeing how much the bowl means to her, he asks if they can make a bowl together and she happily agrees.
After school, Nathan meets Allie and pulls her to the side. Making sure nobody is nearby, he informs her that he is planning on proposing to Elizabeth. Nathan asks Allie to help him secretly take Elizabeth’s ring so they can trace it. They decide to pick up baking supplies. Their plan is to make cookies with Elizabeth, hoping she takes off her ring when she is using her hands to work with all the ingredients.
Elizabeth arrives to help them bake. Allie makes sure to mention that she is going to take off her ring while they are prepping. Instead of doing the same, Elizabeth grabs a spatula and starts mixing.
Nathan and Allie regroup and come up with a new plan. Once they are done with the dinner Charlotte made, Allie offers to help do the dishes with Elizabeth. Elizabeth removes her ring and Nathan prepares a paper and pencil to trace it. Just as Elizabeth removes it, Charlotte insists that she should clean because she made a mess cooking. Elizabeth thanks her and replaces her ring on her finger. Elizabeth notices the pencil and paper, and Nathan tells her that it’s for investigation note-taking.
Out of ideas, Nathan tells Allie that maybe he should just ask Elizabeth for her ring size. Allie emphasizes that he shouldn’t ruin the surprise, and they agree to keep trying.
Rosemary is rehearsing her National Insurance meeting in front of Nathan, Bill and Georgie. They stress that makes the conversation feel organic and to be detail-oriented, so that the case can be as solid as possible.
Rosemary meets with the National Insurance representative, and the scenario carries out exactly as planned. She tells him that she overheard there was a controlled burn from one of the local blueberry farms at around the same time the fire started. The rep eagerly jots it down in his notebook. Once the meeting is over, Nathan, Bill and Georgie come downstairs and praise Rosemary. They were eavesdropping from upstairs.
Oliver and Allie find Mike and Mei while they are making their pottery bowl. Allie has an idea for getting Elizabeth to take her ring off and asks Mei to hold a pottery class. She rushes over to find Nathan and barges into the Mountie Station, yelling “I got it,” without realizing that Elizabeth is there with Nathan. She nervously covers it up by saying that she got an idea for Oliver’s birthday party next year.
Lee and Lucas are going over the Benson Hills rebuild plans and Lee thanks Lucas again for his work in putting the rebuild back on track. Lucas says that it’s great, but he stills feels empty inside. Lee suspects it is because of what happened with Edie. Lucas opens up about being in fear of the same happening with Edie that happened with Elizabeth. Lee advises Lucas to confront the problem, and to not let past experiences keep him from being happy in the future. Lucas sincerely thanks him.
As Charlotte tells Allie and LJ an exciting story about how she got rid of a skunk, LJ is inspired to start drawing. Allie brings up that Mei is holding a pottery class the next day and asks if Elizabeth and Charlotte will go with her. Elizabeth says she would love to but can’t, as she has to pick up LJ after school and catch up on grading. Charlotte offers to pick up LJ so that Elizabeth can go with Allie. Elizabeth thanks her and agrees to go.
Charlotte goes to see what LJ is drawing. Elizabeth informs her that he has a school assignment to depict survival. LJ says that he wanted to draw Charlotte alone on an island because she is tough and doesn’t need anyone. Elizabeth notices Charlotte holding back her emotions.
After putting LJ to bed, Elizabeth returns downstairs while Charlotte is inspecting LJ’s drawing. Elizabeth tells Charlotte how much LJ adores her. Charlotte shares that she has not been able to visit Jack’s grave because it will be too difficult to deal with. She urges Elizabeth to make sure nothing bad happens to LJ because she doesn’t want her to end up on an island alone like how LJ drew her. Elizabeth looks at her with concern as Charlotte leaves to make a pot of tea.
At the pottery class, all the ladies take off their rings. Allie offers to hold on to Elizabeth ring, but Elizabeth finds a place for it on the table. Desperate to get the ring size, Allie recommends that they work with their clay blindly so they can connect with it. Everyone closes their eyes and Allie grabs Elizabeth’s ring and presses it into some spare clay.
Mr. Whittaker, the head of Pioneer Electric, arrives at the police station and tells Nathan that he has news about the investigation. Afterward, Nathan immediately meets up with Bill, Georgie, and Rosemary and tells them the good news. Bill claims that while it would be better to have Christopher to testify, this gives them a fighting chance in court.
In the evening, Bill and Georgie walk through town together. While celebrating the recent success with the investigation, Bill leans in to kiss her. She stops him and tells him she thinks their time has passed, insisting she doesn’t want their relationship to turn out like her others did. Bill insists it can be different for them, highlighting that the important thing is that they make each other happy. She admits he makes a good point, and agrees to try under one condition: total honesty. He agrees without hesitation and professes he has always loved her. They share a romantic kiss.
Mike arrives home to see how his bowl turned out. While it’s not as impressive as Mei’s, he starts listing all the things they can use it for. Mei starts getting emotional and thanks him for taking interest in her past.
Allie and Nathan meet with Ned to look at different ring options. Nathan picks out a ring, leading Ned and Allie to get emotional. Allie talks about how much she loves Elizabeth.
The next morning, Nathan finds Charlotte sitting outside on a bench outside the schoolhouse. He shows the ring to Charlotte and asks for her blessing. Charlotte says that nothing would make her happier. Nathan says there is one more blessing he needs and they both leave together.
Nathan and Charlotte arrive at the cemetery. Charlotte hands him a small bouquet and he kneels to place it on Jack’s grave. He then begins taking to Jack, thanking him and telling him about how LJ and Elizabeth are doing. He then vows that he will look after and protect Elizabeth and LJ. He then asks for his blessing. Charlotte is taken back by emotion listening. She then kneels to talk to Jack. She apologizes for not visiting his grave yet and tells a story of when he stayed outside as a child to protest not being able to go apple picking with her and Tom. She remembers him finally giving in, asking to come inside because he was cold. She tells him that she now feels like the one who is cold now and that she misses him every day. But she still feels his presence through Elizabeth, LJ, Nathan, and the rest of Hope Valley. Nathan comforts her as she cries.
Elizabeth reflects in her journal about solitude. Sometimes it might seem easier to be alone and hope that problems go away, but that never solves them.
Charlotte prepares to meet her taxi to head out of town. Before she leaves, LJ hands her another drawing of her, but this time she is depicted alongside Elizabeth, Allie, Nathan, and himself. As Charlotte departs, she gives Nathan a word of encouragement before his proposal.
She is accompanied in the car by a family with a woman and two small boys. The woman tells her that she has a wonderful family. As she is about to correct the woman, she stops and says that she does. Referring to Nathan, the boys ask if the Mountie is her son, to which she replies that he is like a son to her.
