Pet Myths & Misconceptions Debunked - Home & Family

Pet Myths & Misconceptions Debunked
Dr. Courtney Campbell and Larissa Wohl debunk some common pet misconceptions. They include the following:

Toxoplasmosis is caused by parasite toxoplasma gondii which causes illness to those with high risk groups. They should avoid contact with litter boxes if possible and have someone else clean the litter box at least twice a day with gloves. This prevents the litter box to become infective if it’s left there for 1-5 days. The most common cause of toxoplasmosis are undercooked meats, soil, and improperly handled vegetables. Cats are low risk to cause toxoplasmosis.

A dry nose does not necessarily indicate illness. Look for other things to indicate illness, such as your dog’s weight, vowel movements, vomiting. Know what is normal, check for gum color, feel for abnormal pulse, etc.

Consult with a veterinarian before giving any time of medication to your animal. And do not give one animal’s prescribed medication to another animal because it can potentially cause health problems.
