Make Your Own DIY Floating Bookshelves
Make Your Own DIY Floating Bookshelves
Book2 "L" BracketsWall AnchorsLevelScrewsScrew DriverHot Glue Gun and Hot GlueDirections: It's best to use a book that will be larger than those you will be stacking on top. You could use an outdated Encyclopedia or perhaps a water-damaged art book you just can't bear to through away. You will need two "L" bracket into the back of the book. They can be purchased at any home improvement store for around $5.00. Flip the book upside down. Make sure you strike a balance in placing the brackets depending on the size of your book. Place each bracket an inch to 2 inches fro the outside edges of the book. Choose screws that are appropriately sized to your book. Secure the "L" brackets to the book with a drill. You can use washers if you prefer, but it's not necessary. Secure the back of the book to the brackets with hot glue or double stick tape so that the book cover doesn't flop down. Use wall anchors to secure the base book into the wall. You can buy them in packets, or kits, of multiple anchors for around $10. To find the right placing for your shelf, hold your bracketed book up to the wall. With a level, make sure your brackets are even and trace drill holes on the wall with a pencil. If you can, find wall anchors that have self-driving screws. These are easier than regular screws because you don't need a starter hole to get the screw to go in smoothly. Just drill the self-driving screw in one fluid motion. Next, hold the "L" bracket up to the self-starting screws and secure with the screw provided. Start stacking your books on your floating bookshelf! You should put no more than 5 or 6 books depending on their sizes and weights.
Make Your Own DIY Hulk-Sized Bookshelf Playset!
Make Your Own DIY Hulk-Sized Bookshelf Playset!
Instructions: Choose bookshelves that are different heights so that it mimics a city skyline. Attach molding to the bookshelves and then painted them any color. You can paint the bookshelves any color you want. We chose dark blue for the “buildings” and light blue for the molding because we wanted to create that comic book look as though the city was in nighttime shadow. Now we needed to connect the three bookshelves together as one unit. To do that, we needed to create a platform. We placed the bookshelves side by side and measured their total length, width and depth. Using 1 x 12” pine, I cut a platform with edging that we would eventually place the bookshelves on. The platforms not only makes the 3 bookshelves one unit, but it also makes them more secure for your kids to play with. Attach castors on the bottom of the platform so that the playset will be easy to move around any room. Finally, we placed each bookcase one at a time onto the platform and secured them together with screws. What is “Greebling” or “making greebles”? It’s a DIY term that means to gather a bunch of random items that don’t necessarily have anything to do with one another, putting them together and creating a piece to use. If you look at the buildings, we’ve “made greebles for the tops. That is how you make your own playset unique and all of these came from the 99 cent store. You can even take stuff from around your home. It’s that easy. For “windows” just download the PDF’s we’ve provided you here straight onto sticker paper so that you don’t have to cut and paste. Have your children help you create different scenes for their action figures in each cubical or shelf. Let their imaginations go wild. The best part is this doubles storage for your kid’s toys. Once they are done playing for the day, just have them put their actions figures in the cubby holes, spin the unit around, push it up against the wall and they have cleaned up their toys!
Make Your Own Felted Wool Dryer Balls
Make Your Own Felted Wool Dryer Balls
Wool Roving100% Cotton YarnNylon StockingKitchen StringRecipe: You need wood roving. You can find this from most craft and yarn stores. It looks like a big mass of wool straight from a sheep. Wool roving is what wool looks like before it's spun into yarn. For each ball, you'll need 3-4 ounces of roving (best to weigh it), and roll it into a tight ball. Wrap your ball tightly with 100% wool yarn. Place inside a stocking of cut off pair of hose (cheap knee high's from drug store work great). Tie off with kitchen string (not yarn). Toss in a hot machine wash cycle, then dry on high - this will "felt" the ball (it will shrink considerably). Remove the hose and sprinkle with 20 drops Lavender essential oil per ball. I recommend that you use about 5-6 balls per drying load to get maximum anti-static and fragrance effect.
