Erin Krakow

Actress Erin Krakow sits down with Cameron and Debbie to talk about the season six premiere of Hallmark Channel’s Original Series, “When Calls the Heart,” which you can watch Sunday, February 24th at 8/7c. She brings a clip from the premiere and Debbie admits she cried watching the scene! It reminded her of returning to work after having her baby. Erin also prepares fans that there are a bit of changes in Hope Valley in the new season, including phones, cars and even some wardrobe updates! After her interview, Erin takes questions from fans.

Shrimp and Grapefruit Salad

Gail Simmons of “Top Chef” is in the kitchen making a refreshing shrimp and grapefruit salad with a homemade ginger-chili dressing. She places the shrimp in a broth on the stove with lemongrass, ginger, salt and pepper for two minutes before taking them out and shocking them in an ice bath to keep them from getting rubbery. The chili peppers can be opted out of the dressing, if you are sensitive to spicy foods. This recipe was inspired by a trip that Gail took with her husband to Bali.

DIY Giant Chess Set

Ken Wingard and Maria Provenzano team up for this fun playful giant chess set. Before getting started, grab two 2’ x 4’ boards and attach them with piano hinges. The hinges make the chess board easy to fold up and store away. After you have placed your checkers in place, seal it with a water-based polyacrylic. Maria attaches her chess pieces on plywood rounds using hot glue, before spray painting them. If you want to get your kids involved, let hem help with choosing colors for the pieces.

Churros with Cajeta and Chocolate

Chef Aaron May is in the kitchen preparing a Spanish sweet treat of churros with cajeta and chocolate. He uses brandy for this recipe, but says you can use bourbon or aged tequila, as well. Once you add all your ingredients on the stove top, start stirring fast, until it turns into a ball of dough. Use a pastry bag with a star tip when it comes to squeezing the dough in boiling vegetable oil. After rolling the churros in cinnamon and brown sugar, he serves them with homemade chocolate sauce and cajeta sauce.

DIY Winter Gloves in Three Ways

She recommends using Gem-Tac when it comes to adding the embellishments to the gloves because there is a smaller tip that helps with accurate precision. She cautions you that the glue is very strong, so use it very sparingly.
