String Hearts
Shirley shares tips on how to take care of a plant that has stolen our hearts called String Hearts. They are gorgeous semi-succulent, trailing vine plants with leaves that look like little hearts.
HOW TO MULTIPLY STRING HEARTS:
1. WATER CUTTINGS: Making sure one node is submerged – that’s where the roots appear. Change the water every two days and plants will root in 2 weeks and can stay in water indefinitely.
2. CUTTINGS IN SOIL Take a 2-3-inch stem cutting and lay it on top of slightly damp succulent soil/perlite mix (roots will eventually attach to the soil and multiply). Water again only when the soil starts to dry. place in medium light and roots will appear in 6 weeks.
3. PINNING STEMS- Take a vine that is cascading and lay it on top of succulent/perlite soil, pinning the vines to another small container (filled with the mix) - lay on soil in spiral fashion and use a pin to lay it all together. They will attach themselves and grow new roots. Once new roots form cut the stem from the “mother plant” or original plant.in six week a nodule will grow. at that time cut stem away from mother plant. Once you have your new plants place in a room with direct sun.
