A light snow falls as Cassie and Sam walk out of the bistro. When Sam called to tell her the news that Linda had gone back to New York, Cassie left John's faculty formal to make sure Sam was okay. Sam explained that before leaving, Linda made amends for the way she had treated Nick and he seems to be handling her leaving well. Sam then asks Cassie about her date with John, adding that it's nice of Cassie to fill in for John's girlfriend. Cassie hesitates before telling Sam that John and his girlfriend broke up. She then reveals that John was a bit of a player in college, with lots of girlfriends but none of them serious. It's also why he and Cassie have always been just friends. Sam chuckles and then suggests they need to celebrate. Sam then conjures an inspired idea and suggests that the location of their date be a surprise for Cassie.
It’s morning at Grey House and Abigail and Cassie are discussing what to do with their delinquent guest Alexis. Alexis owes Cassie for her stay at Grey House and owes Abigail for several bouquets and now that they’ve caught her trying to leave without paying, Cassie and Abigail are torn over what to do next. Abigail still wants to call the police, but Cassie isn’t sure that’s the best course. For Alexis’ part, she was hoping that her brother could convince her father to reactivate her credit cards, but both her brother and father now think it’s time for Alexis to grow up and get a job. Cassie decides that she won’t call the police if Alexis works off her debts. With no other choice, Alexis agrees.
Sam stops by Cassie’s shop to surprise her with a kiss, which is interrupted by Martha. Cassie is happy that Martha is there to talk about the upcoming Health Fest that Cassie is in charge of every year. Cassie wants help from Sam, but she asks Martha to be the one to request his assistance.
A mysterious trunk arrives at Grey House. Cassie explains that the trunk was found at the Art Institute of Chicago and the last return address attached to it was Grey House. Grace opens the trunk and finds a beautiful gown, a khaki suit, an aviation jacket and a pair of boots. Cassie suspects that these eccentric outfits belonged to Elizabeth Merriwick, who owned Grey House in the 1930’s.
Missy and Gus get closer when she agrees to give his niece a tour of the ranch, and Valeria works her way into the ranch hand boys club via their traditional Poker game.
The widow of Lee's former partner arrives and gives Gowen a chance to run a company again; Elizabeth tutors a new student; the residents of Hope Valley conspire to pull off a surprise.
Tourists start arriving, including the St. Johns, who may prove to be trouble for Bill. Meanwhile, Elizabeth rallies all Rosemary's friends to plan the perfect baby shower.
