In 1816, Kat and Jacob are sitting outside of the singed Landry house, reflecting on seeing Colton in the past. Jacob and Kat are uncertain about leaving Elijah alone in 1816 now that the home has burned. Jake wants Kat to stay behind with Elijah so he can return to the present, especially to begin to work on the Goodwin Vineyard.

Jacob returns to the present to tell Del, Alice, and Elliot about the riot, the fire, and Colton’s appearance in 1816. Del adds that Colton never mentioned this event happening in the family’s history. Jacob states that he feels vengeful towards Cyrus Goodwin. The group tries to calm him down, reminding him that Cyrus is no longer around. Elliot asks about Kat and Jacob informs them that she stayed back with Susanna and Thomas to help. Elliot’s expression changes as Thomas’ name is mentioned. Alice begins to ask Jacob how old Colton looked. Jacob mentions that he was wearing a suit, and Alice believes that this visit is the same one as when she saw Colton swimming in the pond after Rick’s funeral.

Alice finds Del downstairs in basement packing up Colton’s old stuff. She tells Alice she wants a fresh start and asks Alice to go to 1974 to get answers so that she can know the truth.

At the computer, Jacob researches the effects of fires on vineyards. He reads about how ash can taint the soil and make the resulting wine undrinkable.

In 1816, Kat and Thomas reflect on the fire. They come to the realization that it is impossible for them to be there for each other through every difficulty in each other’s lives. They “can’t cheat fate.”

Back at his home in the present, Elliot gazes upon a photo of himself and Kat. As he returns the photo to its spot, a clock falls off the mantle. When he catches it, the bottom of it slides open and he finds a mysterious artifact.

Jacob meets with Louis on the vineyard. Louis shows Jacob around and even shows off his brand new, state of the art irrigation machine. He mentions how happy he is to start the vineyard with another one of Port Haven’s founding families. As Louis walks off, Jacob looks around with suspicion.

Alice arrives at Coyle’s in 1974 and is greeted by Colton, Evelyn, and Jasper. Colton excitedly tells Alice that the producer loved the demo they recorded and invited them both to go to San Francisco to record it. Alice tells Colton that she’s not sure she can join. Evelyn looks disappointed and tells Alice that she is going along as Colton’s groupie. Colton tells Alice that he hopes he can make some real money with his music so that he can find his way back to Del. Alice asks Colton for a ride back, but Evelyn insists she stay so they can catch up.

Louis runs into his old friend Danny, who is also working on the vineyard. Jacob asks him for his access code since Louis hasn’t given him one yet. Danny happily agrees.

Alice and Evelyn catch up at Coyle’s in ’74. Alice apologizes about what she said to Evelyn at the pond, and she accepts the apology. Evelyn tells her that she knows Colton still wants Del, but the trip to San Francisco could be her chance to spend more time with him. Alice reminds Evelyn that she has to finish school and asks if the trip will hinder that. Before storming out, Evelyn accuses Alice of never being on her side, and says the trip is a dream she must follow. An unknown girl at the table next to Alice tells Alice that Evelyn is right and reads Alice a T.S. Eliot quote about dreams. The girl leaves.

In 1816, Kat and Susanna talk about how they can help Elijah. Kat also asks what will happen to Susanna if Cyrus dies. She tells Kat that she will not be safe if she doesn’t have Cyrus’ protection and informs Kat that she has decided to start writing a book about Port Haven, including everything that Cyrus has done. Kat proposes that Susanna convince Cyrus to change his will so that she will inherit everything. Susanna comments that would be impossible in her era. A voice in the distance proclaims that Cyrus has woken up.

As Alice arrives at the pond to return to the present, she sees Colton jump in, but this time he resurfaces. When the pond doesn’t take him anywhere, Alice confronts him.

Back at Lingermore in 1816, the doctor informs Susanna of Cyrus’ conditions. He may never be able to walk or speak again. Kat eavesdrops on this conversation, and while he can’t speak, Cyrus notices.

At the pond in 1974, Alice tells Colton that friends don’t keep secrets and asks for the truth. Colton finally confides in Alice. When he was a child, Grandma Fern revealed the magic of the pond but told him that he could not jump in until he was older. He went against Fern’s instructions when he dove in to save Evelyn when they were kids. The pond didn’t take him anywhere and he was devastated as he now believed the stories Fern shared were not true. He returned to the pond years later, after getting in an argument with his mom. He threw his bag in the pond in frustration. When he tried to retrieve it, he fell into the pond. The pond took him to 1814, where he met Elijah and Jacob Landry. When he was in 1814, he remembered an 1816 folk song that Jasper had once told him about. It talked about the year of no summer, so that is why he advised Jacob to plant rye and potatoes.

He returned to 1974 and was very happy that he was able to help his ancestors, and to find out that Fern’s stories of the pond were real. When he told Fern about it, she was extremely upset that Colton tampered with their future, claiming that he broke the rules.

On the day of the party at the cove, he decided that he wanted to tell Evelyn about the pond, since she always believed in the magic of it all. That’s when he decided to put the invisible ink messages in the books. Evelyn never found the messages. Del then arrived at the cove and things changed, especially after Rick’s passing that same night. After Rick’s funeral, Colton jumped in the pond, hoping to stop Rick’s accident from happening. Instead of taking him to Rick, the pond brought him to the riot in 1816. He learned that the village was angered with the Landrys’ knowledge to plant rye and potatoes. Colton blamed himself and now believes the pond won’t take him anywhere because he broke the rules.

Colton tells Alice he decided to share this with her because he thinks Alice is a time traveler. Alice doesn’t take the chance and lies that she isn’t a time traveler.

In 1816, Susanna stands before Cyrus, who is in his bed. She tells Cyrus that she is appreciative of his protection, but justice must be served for what he has done to her and the Landrys. She tells him that she will keep his condition a secret, but she will speak for him and run Port Haven. He nods in agreement.

In 1974, Alice and Colton walk back to the Landry farm. Del is on the porch. In a burst of excitement, Colton runs over to her and Alice watches as Colton gets on one knee to propose, and Del joyfully says yes.

In the present, Del receives another mysterious letter in the mail. Alice storms in, excited to tell Del about her recent trip. Alice informs Del that Colton only time traveled as a teen, so he never lied to Del about it during their marriage. Del still is upset that he time traveled at all and never told her, especially since he was willing to trust Alice with his story. Alice asks Del why she returned to Port Haven on the day Colton proposed. Del tells Alice that maybe they will talk about it later. Del then has a flashback of the proposal. She also remembers telling Colton about why she came back. When she first returned to her parents from Port Haven, she didn’t receive a warm, pleasant welcome. Her parents were having financial trouble, which is why they sent Del to Port Haven. After they lost everything, her parents changed and began to ignore her.

In 1816, Kat tells Thomas about Susanna’s new agreement with Cyrus. Thomas asks Kat what their fate together is, to which Kat says she doesn’t know. Thomas tells Kat that he even tried jumping in the pond to see if he could see Kat, which obviously didn’t work. She tells Thomas that while they may not be able to be together, he is the reason she now understands what she wants from love. Thomas tells Kat of his plans to take a ship to New York, where he has family he can stay with.

He says that he no longer wants to go and has bigger things to think of now, especially since he and Del are engaged. Fighting back tears, Evelyn congratulates them and walks off. In 1816, Kat helps Elijah clear out the debris from the house. He shares with Kat that it all feels like a battle they are unable to win. Kat assures him that she will fix everything and that she knows it will all work out in the future. Elijah goes back inside and Kat weeps as she struggles to move around the debris. Her crying is interrupted by the arrival of Elliot, who is now in 1816. They immediately kiss. Elliot tells Kat that he came with Jacob, but Jacob had to go back to the present. Elliot is greeted by Elijah Landry and offers to help in any way he can. Thomas watches from a distance and sees Kat and Elliot kiss. After Kat walks inside, Elliot notices Thomas out in the woods and they exchange a nod from a distance.

In 1974, Alice meets with Evelyn at Coyle’s to comfort her. Evelyn is shattered; her dreams are gone. Alice urges her to keep dreaming and tells her that she was always on her side.

Back in 1816, Susanna arrives at the Landry farm on horseback. Now that she speaks for Cyrus, she informs them that Cyrus was concerned for the Landrys and sent supplies from the shipyard to help rebuild their home. Elijah hugs Susanna. Susanna tells Kat she hopes to be Port Haven’s hero. Elliot looks at Susanna in amazement, and Kat introduces him as Elliot Augustine, Susanna’s descendant. Elliot thanks her for everything and tells her that meeting her is a gift.

Alice returns home to the present day to tell Del that she made amends with Evelyn. Del is surprised to find out that Alice was the reason that Evelyn left.

In 1974, Colton and Del are together at the Landry farm. Grandma Fern is okay with Del staying, but Colton’s mother will not give her permission until they are married. Del tells Colton that maybe they should go to San Francisco together. There is a knock on the door. It’s Evelyn. She asked her parents if Del could stay at Lingermore again, and they said that Del can stay for as long as she likes. Evelyn reveals she is leaving to travel. Colton wants her to stay, but Evelyn insists that she has to go and chase her dreams. She tells Del that she owes her one.

At The Point, Alice is closing. She runs into Max Goodwin, who is still there studying. She notices that he has Evelyn’s old pendant on his keys. She asks about Evelyn and their relationship. He tells Alice a bit about her life, how she traveled and even was married, which ended badly. She always was herself and went against the grain, and she and Max got along because they understood each other. He had a really hard time when Evelyn got sick because she tried to call him the night she passed, and he didn’t answer the phone. Alice tells Max that Evelyn gave her grandmother advice on time. She explains how Evelyn said that you can’t follow your dreams standing still. Max tells Alice that it’s exactly what she said to him on the message she left him. Alice and Max kiss. Alice stops the kiss after a few seconds and tells Max she needs to finish closing.

At home, Alice tells Kat about her moment with Max. Kat reassures Alice that she kissed Max because it felt right, not because it was some predetermined destiny. Alice and Kat begin to reminisce on being friends in 1999. Kat mentions the time they played a game together with Elliot. Alice has no memory of this, and they realize that it hasn’t happened for Alice yet. They rush out of the room. On their way out, Del asks if they know where Jacob is, to which they reply no but that Del’s truck isn’t outside, so he probably took it out. Del finds the article about fire’s effects on vineyards open on his computer.

Alice and Kat meet up with Elliot at his house, where they realize through Elliot’s journal that in Alice’s future, she will return again to 1999. Alice is thrilled.

At the Lingermore vineyard, Jacob arrives and punches in the code that he got from Danny. The doors open and he grabs the keys to the fuel tank. He throws a torch out onto the soil and gets ready to turn on the fuel. Del promptly arrives and warns him not to turn on the gas. Jacob tells Del that he needs to see the Goodwins suffer after everything Cyrus did to their family. Del screams at Jacob and tells him he needs to let go of the past and get in the truck and leave. Although Jacob finally relents and puts the fire out, his actions have been recorded by security cameras.
