In 1974, Colton is singing at Coyle’s in front of a crowd, including Alice, Evelyn, and Del. Kat also walks in. Jasper films the moment and both Alice and Kat seem hesitant to be visible on camera. Alice goes to ask her mom if she dug up any information on Casey Goodwin. Kat says she didn’t find anything, but that doesn’t mean Casey is from the future, even though Alice believes that is the case. As Colton is performing, Evelyn looks back to see Del watching Colton’s performance with admiration. Evelyn asks Alice if she wants to hang out after, and Alice agrees. As Colton begins singing another song, it’s clear this one is different; the words almost seem to be referencing the pond. Kat asks Jasper about it, and he explains that it’s an old Port Haven folk song that he taught Colton. Kat tells Jasper it reminds her of a past love. Jasper gives Kat a book with a series of old Port Haven songs.

For the first time, Kat interacts with a young Del. She simply says hi to Kat, but Kat is overwhelmed and flees quickly. At the Landry farm, Kat sees Fern. She begins to ask Fern more about what happened in 1965 with the pond. Fern looks off into the distance and does not reply to Kat’s questions. She snatches the songbook that Jasper gave to Kat and begins singing something. Kat tells Fern that her grandson Colton is special. Fern snaps at Kat saying that he isn’t special, and that he is a rulebreaker. Fern won’t tell Kat what rule Colton broke and walks off.

In the present, Sam greets Del at the farm. Del mentions to Sam that she doesn’t want any special celebration for her birthday because she hates her birthday. Sam acts like he didn’t even know her birthday was coming up. Off at Elliot’s house, Elliot, Jacob, and Brady are taking party supplies out of the car. Jacob mentions his job working for Louis Goodwin’s vineyard.

Once again in 1974, Evelyn shows Alice her new room. She moved into the attic to get more space from Del. She tells Alice that she believes the room is haunted, because apparently a man kept his wife locked away in it. She decides to name this ghost Cassandra. Colton comes in and comments that Evelyn’s new room is creepy. Evelyn pulls out a Spirit Board and tells Alice and Colton that she wants to try to contact Cassandra.

Kat looks through the songbook that Jasper gave her. She begins to read the lyrics, talking about a smuggler and a sprite. As she reads, she flashes back to her time with Thomas in 1814.

Back in Evelyn’s room in ’74, Colton is skeptical of the Spirit Board, especially with what happened to Rick. She reassures Colton, saying that they will just stop if things get weird. As they begin, the door creaks, and Del walks in. Evelyn tells her to go back downstairs, but she says she wants to join in. Del introduces herself to Alice for the first time.

Kat and Elliot are sitting on the porch, catching up on Kat’s most recent trip in the pond. She tells Elliot that she realized how much she loves coming home to him and asks if their love could have songs written about it. Elliot nods in agreement and they kiss.

Evelyn asks Cassandra if she will show her presence, and the spirit board moves. Evelyn says that Cassandra may know about the founders of Port Haven and wants to ask her more. Colton tenses up at this idea and tells Del that they should go. Alice looks on at Colton suspiciously. The pointer on the board begins to move more aggressively. The spirit uses the pointer to identify themselves as “fire.” The pointer then spells out “too fast.” Next, the word “blame.” Evelyn asks who the spirit blames, and the pointer begins to circle quickly. The pointer flings out of the group’s hands. Colton seems shaken up by this interaction.

Kat and Elliot are kissing on the couch when there is a knock on the door. It’s Elliot’s ex-wife, Emma. She explains that she wanted to stop by since she was in the area for work in an orchestra and had a couple of free days. Elliot invites Emma to join them for dinner.

After Colton and Del leave together, Evelyn starts to tell Alice about how everything has changed. Colton used to look after her and even rescued her. She tells Alice the story of how Colton saved her from drowning when she was 8. She mentions that their parents tried to keep them apart, but they always found a way to stay in touch. Alice tries to ask more about this but is interrupted because Evelyn notices a hidden door in the attic. They open it and find the painting of Kat. Evelyn says she recognizes her face. Alice excuses herself quickly and runs off.

In the present, Del and Sam receive an envelope in the mail. Del hands it to Jacob. It’s a document acknowledging that Jacob is no longer missing and declared alive. She tells Jacob that she and Sam have been working on getting it processed for him. Jacob is thankful. They all hug.

Over dinner, Emma and Elliot tell Kat about how they met and got together. Elliot and Kat look over at each other awkwardly as the story is told. Emma notices balloons in the house and asks about them. They explain that it’s Kat’s mother’s birthday. Kat invites Emma and Elliot looks at Kat in shock. Emma agrees to attend.

Brady and Alice are eating together at The Point. Noah walks in and Alice introduces him to Brady. Noah surprisingly introduces himself as Alice’s boyfriend. Alice smiles at him and asks Noah to join them.

Now with just the two of them at home, Kat and Elliot reflect on their awkward day with Emma. Elliot reassures Kat that he always knew that Kat was the one for him, and Kat says that there is always the one before “the one.” At that moment, Kat imagines sharing a kiss with Thomas by the pond.

Jacob calls Louis Goodwin and accepts the job offer. Meanwhile, Alice and Kat finally meet up at The Point after their last trip to the pond. Alice tells Kat about how she saw the painting in 1974. They bump into Max Goodwin on their way out. Kat says that he has the same eyes as Casey.

At Del’s party, Del makes a toast to Kat, Alice, and Jacob. Del shares the news about Jacob being officially “alive” again, and Jacob announces his new job. At the party, Brady and Kat have a private conversation about Alice. Brady expresses concern with Alice losing track of her goals. Kat tells Brady that she will move back if Alice asks her to, and Elliot overhears Kat describe her living situation right now as temporary. At the party, Emma is going to perform the violin for everyone. She sees the old songbook from 1974 in the room and decides to perform a song from it. Kat tries to get her to play something else, but Emma insists. Emma also asks Alice to sing, and she agrees. They perform the song together, and once again, the song seems to parallel the story between Kat and Thomas in 1814, even referencing a witch. Elliot decides to join in on the piano. Kat looks to Jacob to see if he agrees that the song seems to be describing her. Kat abruptly stops the performance to get a closer look at the words in the book. The song is from 1816, and Rita shares that 1816 was known as the year with no summer. At that time, a volcanic eruption covered the sky in smoke, which seems to be described as the sun being stolen by a witch in the song.

After this, Elliot, Kat and Jacob get together to investigate. There is no account from Susanna in the year 1816. Kat decides that they should look more into the lyrics for answers. Kat and Jacob think that Susanna may be in danger, and they want to try and go back.

Alice goes outside to find Del and bring her in for cake. Del apologizes on Kat’s behalf for her interrupting their performance. Alice says it’s okay and that her mom is a bit thrown off with Emma being there. She decides to ask Del if she knows more about Evelyn Goodwin’s life. Del shares that she didn’t know Evelyn wall because she put up walls. Alice tells Del that Evelyn was in love with Colton. Del is a bit offended by this, claiming that she shouldn’t feel guilty for Evelyn. Del angrily tells Alice to stay out of her memories. Sam overhears the end of their conversation. Alice runs off to the barn, and Noah comes up to comfort her. They share a kiss. He says that his friend Max Goodwin told him that Alice was wife material, and Noah agreed and decided to pursue Alice more seriously.

Jacob and Brady run into each other on the porch. Brady congratulates Jacob on his job and Jacob starts to tell Brady about how he is excited to start his life and even find love. Brady emotionally apologizes to Jacob for distracting Kat at the carnival when they lost Jacob as a kid. Jacob tells Brady that he never blamed him, and they shake hands.

Sam asks Del about her conversation with Alice, specifically the part about staying out of her memories. Del explains to Sam about why she hates her birthday. She left Port Haven for the first time on that date and her life back home had changed. Del says she decided to make a selfish choice and doesn’t want Alice to think less of her if she finds out about it. Sam consoles her.

The next day, Kat tells Elliot that she wants to go in the pond again. Elliot tells her that she is just trying to jump from her problems, and he wants to address Emma coming to visit. He tells Kat that he saw Kat the night he proposed to Emma; she and Brady were at the same restaurant in Toronto. He thought seeing Kat and Brady seemingly happy together was a sign that his chance with Kat was over. Kat tells her side of the story. Brady joined Kat on a journalism conference trip in the hopes of rekindling their marriage. She was not happy at that time. Elliot tries to ask Kat not to jump. She says that she wants to look after Jacob, and Elliot understands.

Walking to school, Alice runs into Max Goodwin again. She asks him one more time if he has a relative named Casey. He says no, but Casey is a family name, short for Cassandra. Emma stops by Elliot’s again to apologize. Elliot offers her a tea and she comes inside.

Jacob and Kat jump in the pond together. In 1816, the sky is red. Elijah Landry is not home. They go to the chapel and see Cyrus Goodwin standing by the door, so they hide. Susanna walks out and takes Cyrus’ hand. She is wearing a bridal dress. She notices Jacob and Kat but disregards them and leaves with Cyrus. Thomas is on his own, hiding and watching from the woods.
