Kat reveals to Del the story of how she is the reason Colton is dead. Kat also shares how when she told Jacob, he was angry and stayed in the past. Del tries her best to listen but steps out. Alice comes downstairs to comfort Kat.
Alice decides to jump in the pond and return to 1974. She arrives at Evelyn’s and Colton is there. Evelyn tells Alice that she has figured out who the woman is in the “My Katherine” painting. She recognizes the woman as the same one that saved her and Colton from drowning when they were younger. Colton claims he saved himself. Whem Evelyn and Colton begin to tell Alice about how they used to leave each other messages in invisible ink, Alice blurts out that they write them in books. Colton gets a suspicious look on his face and offers to give Alice a ride home. In the car, Colton asks about how she knew of the messages in books. She says she could tell that the books Colton gave to Evelyn at the cove seemed special, so it made her think that would a be a place for their invisible messages. Her explanation alleviates Colton’s suspicions, but Colton asks her to not tell Evelyn because so much has changed since then.
Back at Elliot’s in the present, Alice tells Kat that she should move back into the Landry home to mend things with Del. Kat tells Elliot that she wants to go back to the past to convince Jacob to return and to make it up to Del. Elliot believes that Del will forgive her and comes to the realization that there was nothing Kat could have done to save Colton. Kat insists that she should go.
When Nick arrives, Elliot asks him to not tell Kat about Emma. Elliot says he will tell Kat when the time is right. Kat rushes back to Elliot’s, crying and telling him that the pond didn’t let her go back to 1816.
Back in 1816, Jacob and Elijah are at home. Elijah can tell that Jacob is back in 1816 because he is avoiding something in the present. Elijah wants Jacob to return because he doesn’t trust Cyrus’ truce. Jacob is confident that Cyrus will not come after him because he is scared of Kat. Their conversation is interrupted by a banging knock on the door. Two of Cyrus’ men are at the door. Jacob is being summoned to Lingermore.
In the present, Nick tells Alice that the upcoming karaoke event at The Point will help ease the tension between Elliot and Kat. Alice asks Nick why there is tension, and Nick lies and says it’s because of everything that is going on. He doesn’t mention that Elliot and Emma kissed.
At the Landry home, Sam can tell that something is bothering Del, who explains that Jacob has left home. To change the subject, Del asks Sam about when she saw him with Casey Goodwin. Sam shares that Casey is just a client and they were catching up. Sam asks Del to go to the karaoke event with him at The Point. Del says she’ll think about it.
Alice shows up at Lingermore to work with Max. Max tells Alice how he’s still weirded out by Jacob’s disappearance when he was a kid, especially because Jacob was just hired to work on the vineyard. Alice tells Max that she wants to go up to the attic.
In 1816, Cyrus’ men escort Jacob into the Lingermore attic. Susanna is waiting for him; she summoned him. She asks why he stayed in 1816 instead of leaving with Kat. Thomas barges in with a gun but quickly eases up when he sees Jacob and Susanna. He heard Jacob was taken by Cyrus’ men and thought he would need to come save Jacob. Jacob tells Thomas and Susanna why he stayed when Kat left. Susanna reveals the painting and tells Jacob to go back to Kat. Cyrus comes in, disappointed at the sight of Jacob and Thomas with Susanna. He tells Susanna he is going to escort them out, promising not to hurt them. Jacob threatens Cyrus, telling him that he will come for him if he ever puts a hand on Susanna. Cyrus tells Jacob to be careful because the witch isn’t there to protect him. Thomas and Jacob leave.
In the present, Alice and Max are in the attic. Alice notices a coffee cup and thinks that someone was there recently. Max tells her there was apparently a squatter in the attic last summer. She opens the hidden door in the attic and finds a phone and a chess piece. When Alice mentions Evelyn, Max immediately gets angry. Alice leaves and returns home. When she arrives, Del tells Alice about Sam being with Casey. Del notices that Alice is upset. Alice reveals to Del that she was on the road when Colton crashed, and that Kat was only trying to save her. Del hugs Alice.
At Elliot’s, Kat and Elliot are trying to wrap their heads around why the pond didn’t allow Kat to return to 1816. Elliot tells Kat she needs to resolve what’s happening in the present. Elliot is about to come clean to Kat when Nick comes in trying to rally them for the karaoke event.
At The Point, Alice tells Kat about her theory about Casey squatting at Lingermore last summer. Just as Kat is disagreeing with Alice, Casey shows up behind them, admitting to be the squatter at Lingermore. It turns out Casey is actually Louis Goodwin’s second cousin. Alice is still skeptical. After Casey departs, Kat tells Alice to put her theory to bed. If Casey isn’t a time traveler, then who pushed Alice into the pond?
Rita drives up to the Landry farm to check on Del, who has just received another ominous letter in the mail. When she shows Rita all the letters she has been receiving, Rita suggests that Sam is behind them. She overheard gossip about a case Sam worked on in the past and thinks Sam may have someone coming after him for revenge.
Nick, Elliot, Alice, and Kat all arrive at The Point. Nick gets up to put on a karaoke song for Elliot and Kat. Alice tells Elliot that she wants a new lab partner. But Elliot defends Max, saying that he was apparently close to Evelyn and the move to Port Haven has been a lot for him.
In 1816, Jacob and Thomas are sitting by a fire at the beach. Jacob is confiding in Thomas. Thomas also tells Jacob to return to the present.
At The Point, Kat and Elliot are surprised to hear their names called up for karaoke. They begin to sing “Silver Springs” by Fleetwood Mac. During their performance, Del walks in and Sam waves to her. As the song is ending, Kat goes to hug Del.
Once again in 1816, Thomas and Jacob arrive at the pond. Jacob jumps in. A few seconds later, Thomas jumps in. Thomas resurfaces; the pond did not work for him.
In present day, Kat and Del are sitting together at the kitchen table. Del apologizes to Kat and tells her she would have done the same to save her child. Kat says she is going back to 1816 to get Jacob. Del says that she wants to go. Before they can go anywhere, Jacob walks back in the door. Kat returns to Elliot, who finally confesses that Emma kissed him, and he kissed her back. Kat doesn’t seem angry, admitting they both made mistakes. She decides to go stay at the Landry farm.
Jacob is at the pond when Alice sees him. He tells Alice that he was just thinking, and he wasn’t going to jump in. Alice reveals her involvement on the night of Colton’s death. Alice says that her pond jump seems trivial now because she was just going to hang out with Colton. Jacob tells her to go. Alice tells Jacob to talk to Elliot about his issues just like she did.
When Jacob arrives at Elliot’s. Elliot talks of how his mother left and passed shortly after. Kat is about to open the door when she stops to listen to Jacob and Elliot talking. Elliot begins to tell Jacob about the time he went back to 1999 with Alice to see Colton. Jacob asks Elliot to tell him more about it. Kat smiles as she listens.
As Alice arrives in 1974, she sees Colton anxiously waiting outside the Landry farm. Colton tells Alice that today is Del’s last day in Port Haven. Alice hides before Del comes outside. She tells Colton that it is hard for her to say goodbye. Colton tells Del that their love feels like a fairytale, and that they deserve a happy ending. Colton grabs his guitar, but Evelyn suddenly arrives. She is taking Del to the train station. Colton insists he is supposed to take her and asks Evelyn to go. Del asks Colton to let her leave with Evelyn; it will be easier for her that way. She gives Colton a goodbye kiss and rushes into Evelyn’s car, crying as Alice watches.
While she is outside on the farm in the present, Del receives a text. It’s a link to an article about the case Rita talked about. When Sam arrives, he asks Del about why she didn’t acknowledge him at the karaoke event. Sam thinks there was more to the story of Jacob being gone. Del warns Sam that it is personal business, and he does not need to know.
Back in ’74, Alice sits with Colton on the steps of the porch, comforting him after Del’s departure. When Colton stands up, he drops a ring box. It seems like he was planning on proposing to Del.
Back in the present, Nick tells Elliot that things will work out with Kat. Kat walks in and Nick excuses himself. As Elliot is apologizing, Kat stops him. She tells him that she is going to move back home for a while, but maybe Jacob needs a friend and should stay with him. Elliot asks if they are breaking up. Kat doesn’t directly reply, saying that she needs a friend, too.
At the farm, Jacob tells Del about how Elliot got to go back to see Colton. Del shares that she doesn’t need the pond to see Colton – she just listens to his demo. Jacob grabs the demo. When a photo of Colton and Del slips out of the case, Jacob recognizes Colton as the boy who came to the farm in 1814 and told them to plant potatoes and rye.
Kat jumps in the pond, and Alice resurfaces back in the present. Kat returns to 1816. She runs into Thomas in the woods. Kat tells him that she was going to see Susanna because Elliot kissed someone else. Thomas kisses Kat and says, “Now, so have you.”
As Alice is returning to the farm, she sees Casey, who is looking for Kat. Alice asks Casey about their ring. Casey says it’s a family ring, but not Goodwin family, and rushes away in a panic. When Alice chases Casey all the way to the pond, she is shocked as Casey jumps in and does not resurface.
