In the present day, Jacob and Alice arrive at Elliot’s, revealing Casey and Colton are time travelers. We then see when Colton arrived at the Landry farm in 1814 as he is greeted by Elijah, Jacob, and Susanna. Susanna brings out the 1814 farmer’s almanac for Elijah, which Colton sees, and comments that he wishes they were better at predicting storms.
After spending time with Jacob and Susanna, Colton tells them it is time for him to go home. Before he leaves, Colton asks them for a favor. He asks them to only plant rye and potatoes, telling them that their wheat and corn will all die. Jacob asks why it feels like they have met before. As he departs, Colton replies that they are cut from the same cloth.
Once again in the present, Del is sitting on the porch, having a flashback of her and Colton when they were younger. Del asked Colton about why Grandma Fern claims she has time traveled, and Colton tells Del not to listen to her stories. Colton tells Del that the pond is simply just a pond. Alice arrives to ask if Del is okay, considering she has just learned that Colton was a time traveler. Del says that maybe Colton needed something of his own to not feel trapped.
In 1816, Kat asks Thomas why he is still in Port Haven after everything. Thomas said that he wanted to make sure Susanna and the Landrys were safe, but he was also hoping that Kat would return one day. They kiss. Kat stops the kiss quickly, frustrated. She tells Thomas she is worried she is using the pond again to run away from her problems. She questions whether she is there to get back at Elliot but reassures Thomas he means more to her than that. She needs time to figure things out. Thomas tells her that he won’t wait forever.
After her return to the present, Kat is upstairs with Alice, asking her about Colton and Casey. When Del walks in the room, Kat tries to apologize, but Del says she’s tired and turning in for the night. Kat proposes that they find Colton again and confront him about the pond. Alice advises against this because they don’t know when Colton started using the pond, and they shouldn’t tell him about his future. Kat agrees but tells Alice to keep allowing Colton to confide in her. Alice gets a notification on her phone from Noah. She’s frustrated because now she thinks Casey is her kid with Max Goodwin in the future, so her relationship with Noah isn’t going to work out.
In the morning, Alice walks outside and is greeted by Noah. He brought her flowers for their one-month anniversary and asks her to go to breakfast with him. Alice tells him it’s a bad time. Noah asks her why she hasn’t been responding to him and why things have gotten so weird. Fighting back tears, Alice tells him she doesn’t see them working out and she doesn’t want to hurt Noah. Noah tells her it’s too late for that and drives off.
Kat is at The Herald looking at a photo of her and Casey. She says that Casey better be from far in the future because she is not ready to be a grandma. Kat finds an old signature of Casey’s, signed as “K.C.” and not Casey.
Back in ’74, Alice walks into Coyle’s. Colton and Evelyn are inside hanging out as well. Colton is still upset about Del leaving, saying that he’ll never meet anyone like her again. Jasper encourages him to channel that emotion into his music. Evelyn tells Colton that things were never going to work out with him and Del, that Del’s parents wouldn’t have allowed it. Evelyn says that they should go for a swim at the cove before summer ends. Colton declines and leaves. Evelyn tells Alice that now that Del is gone, it’s her time now.
Alice catches up with Colton at the Landry farm. He is out on the porch playing guitar. Colton tells Alice he’s been meaning to talk to her. He knows they are alike. Alice freezes for a second, thinking that Colton might mention something about the pond. Instead, he says that they are fellow musicians, and he wants her opinion on a song. Alice agrees and says they both should be totally honest with each other. Colton nods and begins singing.
In the present, Del and Kat are together. Del asks Kat if she thinks Colton knew that Jacob may have fallen in the pond. The thought of Colton keeping that possibility from her, and letting her mourn Jacob’s loss, makes her sick. Kat reassures Del that Colton loved them, and whatever decisions he made were always out of love. Del believes you shouldn’t have to keep secrets from those you love.
Back with Alice and Colton on the porch in 1974, Alice is now singing along with Colton. One of the lyrics is, “let the water bring me back to you.” Alice asks Colton about the lyrics again, stating that Del didn’t like the water. Colton tells Alice that he thought it sounded poetic because the water connects New Brunswick to the Carolinas, where Del is.
Alice returns to the Landry farm in the present to find Max Goodwin on the living room couch. Alice asks him what he is doing here, to which he replies that he wants to review for their upcoming test. Alice reluctantly agrees to study with him. Max comments on the chess set on the coffee table, commenting that Evelyn taught him how to play. Max offers Alice a challenge. If Alice beats him in chess, he will ask Elliot about switching lab partners, since he knows Alice has been wanting to switch.
Kat meets up with Elliot in the barn. She doesn’t want there to be secrets between them and reveals her kiss with Thomas. Elliot questions if Kat would still be telling him this if nothing ever happened between him and Emma. Elliot asks Kat where this leaves them, to which she says she doesn’t know. Elliot advocates for them to move on from their mistakes. Kat doesn’t want to feel like they must try so hard to make things work. Elliot says that maybe that’s their answer and walks off.
Kat and Alice comfort each other for their relationships ending. Alice says she wishes that she could be so sure of someone like how Colton is with Del. They both agree that they are not looking forward to another day in the present.
Kat returns to the past, where on the beach, she rushes into Thomas’ arms for a kiss. Thomas tells her she took her time to return. In the present, Kat has only been gone for 2 days, but Thomas tells her it’s been 3 months since he last saw her. The long winter has left the town struggling, and Elijah is trying his best to share his harvest. The town is beginning to turn on Cyrus. Kat tells Thomas she wants to go see Susanna. Thomas warns her that it isn’t safe, but Kat insists. Thomas agrees to accompany her. A mysterious man watches over them from a distance as they leave the beach.
In 1974, Colton tells Alice that he showed Jasper the song they worked on together, and Jasper wants them to record a demo. Apparently, Jasper has a contact with a record executive. Colton asks Alice to record it with him and Alice happily agrees.
In the present, Elliot tells Jacob he is welcome to stay with him as long as he likes, but that he has to face Kat eventually. Jacob asks Elliot about how things went with Kat last night. Elliot shares how it’s difficult that everything is so messed up. Jacob agrees and says how difficult it is knowing that Kat killed Colton. Elliot defends Kat, reminding Jacob that Kat was trying to save him. Jacob understands but shares that it’s easier to be mad at a person than at a pond. Elliot tells Jacob that Kat may never forgive herself, even though she worked so hard to bring Jacob home and heal their family. Elliot tells her that she doesn’t need anyone else holding it against her because she already blames herself.
Del is standing next to the pond when Jacob arrives, looking for Kat. Del tells him that Kat and Alice both left in the pond, and she’s not sure when they’ll return. Jacob reminds Del how hard Kat worked to bring him back and fix their family and tells Del that it’s his turn. He jumps in the pond. Del angrily tells the pond that it won’t stop until it’s taken everyone she loves. Nick arrives and asks Del if she is ever going to jump in. She tells him that she will always be the one left behind. Nick consoles her and reassures her that he won’t ever tell Claire about everything he knows. He doesn’t want to drag her into it because he cares about her.
Back in 1816, the Port Haven villagers are rioting outside the gates of Lingermore. Kat arrives to check on Susanna. Susanna reveals that Cyrus insists she is not to leave Lingermore. Susanna gives Kat a dress so that she can blend in. There is a knock on the door: it’s one of Cyrus’ men, informing them that Cyrus wants to see them both.
Once again in 1974, Alice and Colton are at Coyle’s recording their song with Jasper’s help. Once they are done singing, Jasper praises them. He tells them there’s more room on the tape and asks if they have anything else. Colton shares he has another song that he’s never played in front of people before. As the song plays, Alice is awash in memories of hearing the song from when Colton sang it to Del as an adult. Evelyn peeks into Coyle’s and listens.
Once Colton is done playing, he tells Jasper that he doesn’t want it on the demo because it’s meant just for Del. Colton tells Alice that it was the song he was going to play her before proposing. He also says that Del is his dream and all he needs to be happy. Evelyn is still listening. She quietly walks out crying. Alice also gets emotional listening to Colton talk about Del. She rushes out.
Back at Lingermore, Kat and Susanna stand before Cyrus. He has the “My Katherine” painting and asks Susanna if she thought she could hide something from him in his own home. The painting is dated to 1814, which is proof to Cyrus that Susanna has been aiding the witch for the last two years. Susanna stops Cyrus as he is about to throw the painting in the fireplace. Cyrus tells Susanna that she played him like a fool. Outside, the rioters break the lock on the gate of Lingermore. Cyrus tells Susanna that their deal is off and storms out. Susanna clarifies to Kat that she married Cyrus because he agreed to keep Susanna’s chosen family safe: the Landrys. Cyrus goes out to address the angry villagers and Thomas watches on from a distance. Cyrus tells all the villagers that the Landrys are thriving during the winter and urges the crowd to follow him to see for themselves. He tells the villagers that Elijah made a deal with the devil for his soil.
In 1974, Alice is walking back to the pond when she sees a body floating near the shore. It’s Evelyn. Alice rushes over but Evelyn is fine. They argue, and Evelyn claims Alice is helping Colton stay hung up on Del instead of helping her. Alice tells Evelyn that she doesn’t think Colton will ever love her the way she wants him to. Evelyn runs off crying.
Alice returns to the present and is passing by Elliot’s as Nick is leaving. He returns her keepsake from when they were kids. Alice tells Nick she wishes she could go back to 1999, when jumping in the pond was just fun. Nick reminds her that her destiny is in her own hands. Nick leaves and Alice pulls out her phone, as she thinks about calling Noah.
Back in 1816, Kat arrives at the Landry farm to warn Elijah. To her surprise, Jacob comes downstairs. Jacob tells Kat that he should have been more understanding and that he came back for her. Kat emphasizes that they need to leave, but Elijah insists that he doesn’t need to run and hide. Cyrus and the villagers approach the house, and Elijah insists that he can reason with them. A rock shatters the window and flies into the house. Kat ensures Elijah that the farm will be okay and begs Elijah to grab what he can and run.
In the present, Del is sitting in her truck at night looking over at the house. Elliot sees her and knocks on the door of the truck to check on her. She shares with Elliot that everything in the house reminds her of Colton and all the things that he kept from her. Elliot tells her that maybe the truth is overrated when you are doing it to save someone you love from the burden. Elliot reminds her that he kept Alice time traveling to 1999 a secret for decades.
At the riot, Kat faces the crowd. She says that she has seen the future and those who work together will survive. Cyrus continues to rally the mob against her and the Landrys. Cyrus tells the villagers that they must extinguish the evil before it spreads. The mob charges. They throw torches in the house. Jacob runs over to Cyrus angrily, telling him that Susanna is inside. Cyrus tries to get everyone to stop. Susanna and Elijah escape out of the back door. Elijah remembers that he forgot the farmer’s almanac. Jacob runs inside to go find it amongst the flames. He grabs it out of a drawer just as Cyrus runs into the house to look for Susanna. Jacob pins him to the wall and starts punching him. Outside, Kat realizes that Jacob is still inside. The roof of the house caves and Kat and Thomas go in to find Jacob. Kat sees Cyrus trapped and refuses to help him because she knows he doesn’t die here. Through the flames, someone drags Jacob out of the house. Kat and Thomas rush out of the house. Kat goes to thank the person who saved Jacob. It’s a young Colton. He says that it’s all his fault and runs off.
At the Landry home in the present, Del sits at the table. She imagines Colton, sitting at the other end of the table, and asks him why he kept things secret from her. She tells him that she believes in her girls to find the answers that he can’t give her.
Alice goes to find Noah at his food truck and apologize to him. Noah isn’t there – it’s just Max Goodwin. Max tells her that Noah left town for a couple of days to clear his head and he’s helping cover the food truck. Max offers to make her fries and mustard, the weird combo that they both like.
Back in 1816, Cyrus is dragged out of the house and Elijah tends to him. Jacob asks why he would help Cyrus. Elijah shares that they have already lost too much humanity, and he doesn’t want to contribute to that. Kat goes up to Jacob to reflect on seeing Colton in 1816. Colton is sprinting through the woods and jumps into the pond. He resurfaces now in the daytime, and tries to go underwater again, only to resurface. He angrily slams his hands in the water. As he climbs out of the pond, he is greeted by Alice. He nervously asks her if the farm is okay.
