In 1965, Colton, Evelyn, and Rick are running through the woods, chasing after a white figure. They all come together and decide to play tag, with Rick and Colton running off. Evelyn comes across the pond and starts talking to it, telling fairies that they can come out now. She drops her flashlight in the water. Colton goes back to look for Evelyn, remembering that she can’t swim. He sees her flashlight glowing in the pond and Evelyn struggling, so he jumps in the pond.
Back in the present, Emma and Elliot are inside the house. She apologizes again and tells Elliot that he and Kat are great together. Meanwhile in 1816, Jacob and Kat see Elijah. As they greet him, he hurriedly flees from the crowd with them. Thomas watches over as this happens.
Del is in the present, walking through the house. She sees Colton’s old guitar and has a flashback of when she did the artwork on the guitar back in ’74. She tells Colton how she wishes she could pursue art, but her parents wouldn’t support that. Colton asks her why she drew a fish on the guitar. It symbolizes that she feels like a fish out of water in Port Haven, but Colton caught her, and now she dreads leaving Port Haven. They kiss.
At Port Haven High School, Noah makes an awkward joke about Alice and Max Goodwin being soulmates because they like the same fry combo. Alice walks off to talk to Elliot. Elliot tells her that Max is also her new lab partner. Alice asks Elliot if he ever tried to fight fate, since he knew parts of his future from a young age. Elliot says its none of her business and walks off.
In 1816, Elijah, Kat, and Jacob return to Elijah’s home. Elijah informs them of the dire conditions and the consequences that have ensued. Kat asks why Susanna and Cyrus are getting married, and Elijah explains that Cyrus has been playing nice and supporting the town during these hard times. Kat is still skeptical. There is a knock on the door. It’s Susanna. She tells Kat and Jacob that she knows what she is doing and tells them they should go back where they belong. She leaves immediately. When Kat chases after her and gives her a hug, Susanna winces in pain. Kat suspects Cyrus is hurting Susanna, which Susanna immediately strikes down. She tells Kat that we can’t always marry who we want, but we can marry someone who can get us what we want. Kat tells Jacob and Elijah that she’s going to the wedding reception.
As she is returning home from school, Alice is greeted with an apology from Del. However, Del still insists that Alice shouldn’t keep going back. Alice gets frustrated by this and storms off.
Once again in 1816, Elijah gives Kat a white dress to help her to blend in with the others at the wedding. Jacob shares that he wants to go to, but Elijah warns that he will get recognized. Kat should be fine since Cyrus only saw her when he was drugged.
At his home in the present, Elliot’s old friend Nick is waiting at the door. He decided to come back to see how Elliot was doing after Emma stopped by. We see a flashback from right before Elliot’s wedding, telling Nick about how he saw Kat and Brady before he proposed to Emma. Nick tells Elliot he needs to live his life.
At Cyrus and Susanna’s wedding reception in 1816, Kat arrives. A man pulls her in to dance, and she does so. During the dancing, Thomas surprises her and simply says, “Did you miss me?” Then, at Elijah’s house, Jacob grabs a gun from a drawer and runs off.
In the present, Del confides in Sam about her problems with Alice. As Sam slams his truck bed door, Del has a flashback of Colton doing that with his truck when they were younger. Colton tells Del that she should stay in Port Haven. Colton and Del laugh about how Del has to go to cotillion when she gets back home. Del teaches Colton some cotillion choreography and they dance romantically in the bed of his truck.
At the wedding in 1816, Thomas tells Kat that he is there to save Susanna. As Kat and Thomas dance, Susanna finally notices Kat. She hopes to keep Cyrus distracted, but he wants to join in on the dancing. Off in a corner and out of sight, Jacob aims his gun at Cyrus. He hesitates to pull the trigger. He refocuses and begins to aim at Cyrus again. Elijah stops him and pulls him outside. As he is talking sense into Jacob, red ash begins to fall from the sky. Just as Cyrus recognizes Kat, a woman bursts through the door claiming there is blood falling from the sky. To deflect Cyrus from accusing Kat, Susanna announces that she is a witch. Chaos ensues. Kat protests that she is the White Witch, and the reason for the summer without sun. Thomas reveals himself and tells Cyrus that he was brought back to life by the White Witch. Cyrus takes Kat and Thomas into custody.
Back at Elliot’s house, Nick tells Elliot that he has decided to move back to Port Haven. As Elliot’s phone begins to ring with Alice on the line, there is a knock on the door. It’s Emma again. She returned to ask Elliot why she didn’t receive his family ring when he proposed. Nick intervenes and suggests that all go out for a bite to eat.
In neighboring cells, Kat tells Thomas the lyrics of the song about the summer with no sun, hoping to come up with some kind of plan. The song ends by mentioning the end of a rope. Kat hopes this doesn’t allude to someone’s demise, but Thomas reassures her. A guard then comes and unlocks Thomas’ cell. Thomas had a connection on the inside and frees Kat as well. They rush out and are met by Jacob. As they are about to leave, more of Cyrus’ men recapture them. Kat is brought to Cyrus and Susanna. Cyrus hopes to negotiate with the White Witch. She informs Cyrus that she can’t fix the sun, but she can give information that can help Cyrus lead Port Haven through the crisis. Cyrus is not satisfied with this offer, and tells her that she, Thomas, and Jacob will be executed. Kat is removed from the room by Cyrus’ guards.
In the present, Del goes to The Point to apologize again to Alice. They acknowledge how emotional the past is for each other and make up. Outside, they see Sam walking by with who they think is Casey Goodwin.
Back in the past, it is the night of Kat, Thomas, and Jacob’s execution. Kat remembers that the song lyrics claimed, “The witch was not frightened when the rope tightened” and remembers that the witch should be gone “by the light of the moon.” Kat proclaims to the crowd that she will also steal the moon if they go through with the executions. Cyrus initially claims she is lying, until the lunar eclipse begins. Kat restates that she will return the moon if they are freed. Susanna and Elijah begin the chants to “Free the Witch.” The crowd joins in on the cheering. Kat’s shackles are removed, and the eclipse ends. She immediately imposes her conditions to Cyrus. Elijah, Thomas, and Jacob must be free, and Cyrus shall stay away from Susanna. If not, she will return and steal the moon again.
In the present, Elliot, Nick, and Emma return to Elliot’s. Nick goes upstairs to turn in for the night and Emma asks if she can stay for a bit. She asks Elliot why it didn’t work between them. She shares that it always seemed like Elliot was looking for reasons that Emma was the one. Elliot apologizes and says that he did love her, but he didn’t give them a proper chance. He says that in another world, they might have worked. Emma asks if their love was real and kisses him. After a few seconds, Elliot pulls away. Emma apologizes.
On the porch, Del and Alice reflect on seeing Sam and Casey. Alice shares how she’s afraid of her future, and worries that she may even marry Max. They agree to never fight again. Del asks Alice to keep her stories of 1974 to herself, because she wants to keep hold of the ones she remembers dearly without worrying about them changing.
Now that they are free, Kat pleads with Susanna to not return to Lingermore, but Susanna insists that she must. Susanna shows Kat a wound on her wrist. It was the reason she winced in pain before. It was given to her by the villagers, who originally accused her of witchcraft and being the reason for the sun being gone. She explains that Cyrus saved her from the mob and continues to protect her. Kat and Susanna say I love you to one another and hug. Kat promises to come back. After Kat has left, Susanna pulls out the “My Katherine” painting.
Jacob says his goodbyes to Elijah and Kat does the same to Thomas. As they are about to jump in the pond, Jacob shares his anxiety around leaving Elijah alone, and how he worries Elijah will be gone the next time he goes back. Kat decides to tell Jacob the story about how Colton died, and that she caused it. Jacob looks at Kat with disgust, frustrated that she kept this secret from him. Kat grabs Jacob’s hand and tries to apologize. Jacob jerks his hand away, and Kat falls in the pond. She resurfaces in 1965. Children’s voices can be heard, and their flashlights can be seen. Kat overhears Rick and Colton talking about how Evelyn can’t swim. Kat runs back to the pond to see Evelyn struggling. Colton jumps in after them. Kat and Evelyn resurface, but Colton is still underwater. Kat returns Evelyn to shore and frees Colton from the clutches of the pond. She is pulled in herself. Evelyn and Colton return to shore, and Evelyn tells Colton that the White Witch saved them. Colton tells Evelyn that they are never going to the pond again.
Kat finally comes back up, this time in the present day. Del is at the pond and helps pull Kat out. Emotionally, she tells Del that she saved Colton but also killed him. Del hugs Kat but with a confused and concerned expression on her face.
