Cassie finds Sam starting his morning with a guitar and coffee. A perfect breakfast, although Sam notes the only thing missing is a blueberry muffin. Cassie smiles as the oven dings. Muffins are ready! As Cassie brings out the muffins, Sam is uneasy about performing surgery today even though he has been doing this forever. Cassie feels it is natural for him to be uneasy because his patient is Adam.
Sam finds Cassie planting bulbs and guesses tulips. Cassie is surprised he knew. She also knows things, like by the look on Sam’s face their trip to Chicago is canceled. He is sorry but Dr. Jacobson’s first surgery with the hip robotics system is tomorrow and he has some doubts about the surgeon’s skills. As it is too late to cancel Sam suggests Cassie take someone else. She has a few people in mind.
A new day in Cedar Cove sees bikers and joggers greeting each along the waterfront. In his office at Saget Development, Warren busies himself looking over documents. As he works, his door swings open and his ex-wife Kelly storms in to confront Warren about missing their divorce hearing. Kelly angrily accuses Warren of not being able to let her go. Warren balks at the charge and responds by demanding Kelly return her engagement ring. The ring belonged to Warren’s mother and, despite her attachment to it, Kelly hands it over. The sight of the ring gives Warren pause and he reflects on his mother and her passing. Kelly too is affected, noting how loving she was towards her and Warren. In the moment of pause Kelly admits that she still loves Warren, but not like a wife. Hearing her words seems to convince Warren that it’s over and he agrees to meet Kelly in court.
Early in the morning, as Sam heads off to start his day, he stops at Cassie’s to grab the morning newspaper. The paperboy has a grudge against Sam and the visit gives him a chance to chat with Cassie. As they talk Sam’s phone rings. It’s another rep from Hillcrest hospital hoping to convince Sam to take the Chief of Staff job. While flattered by the job offer, Sam’s happy with his practice and the extra time he has to spend with Nick. Cassie is listening so intently that she doesn’t realize that she’s pouring water all over the front of the newspaper. As Cassie grabs a towel to clean the mess, both she and Sam notice the ad for a nearby lake house that just happens to be for sale.
