April received a full ride scholarship in track & field to Norfolk State University, where her love for the sport took off. It was 2001 where April was involved in a train accident and her life was changed forever when she lost her leg. She also knew that regardless of losing her leg, she would still continue her career as an athlete. She would later become the fastest amputee in the world, represent USA in the Paralympics and win gold medals in track & field.
