Ken and Tanya’s Romantic Fantasy Swing

Ken Wingard and Tanya Memme team up to create a dreamy swing for your yard!

Materials for the Swing:

  • Wood (30 inches x 8 inches)
  • Rope (Heavy twisted or braided hemp)
  • Drill
  • Saw
  • Knife
  • Sandpaper
  • Tape
  • Baseball
  • String
  • Glue Gun

Materials for the Embellishments:

  • Ribbon
  • Decorative vine
  • Glue gun
  • Spray Glue

Materials for the Costume:

  • Romantic dress
  • Ribbons for hair
  • Flowers or wreath for hair
  • Sandals or bare feet

Directions for the Swing:

  1. Measure wood
  2. Cut with table saw (or have cut at lumber store)
  3. Measure and drill holes (2 per side)
  4. Sand edges smooth
  5. Tape ‘Lead String’ to baseball and toss over branch
  6. Tie ‘Lead String’ to ‘Swing Rope’ and pull over branch til you can reach it
  7. Tie Bowline Knot and pull up tight to branch (See facebook page for knot details. Facebook.com/HomeAndFamilyShow)
  8. Feed other end of rope down one hole, up the other
  9. Tie in a knot and trim end
  10. Glue edges of rope
  11. Repeat for second side

Directions for the Decorations:

  1.  Wrap, tie and glue ivy, flowers and ribbons onto rope

TIPS:

  1. Use endurable hardwood, like green oak, teak or redwood
  2. Use strong rope such as braided hollow core polypropylene or heavy weight twisted hemp
  3. Hang securely on sturdy tree or structural beam
  4. Fasten with a “running bowline” knot (Knot details on our facebook page: Facebook.com/HomeAndFamilyShow)
  5. Decorate with flowers, vines, ribbons and fabric from any craft store
  6. Tear and bunch up strips of different fabrics to add contrasting textures
  7. Romantic costume can be made from thrift store finds
