Materials

  • 3⁄4 in. Plywood Top
  • 1x2 Pine edges
  • Threaded metal pipe
  • Threaded metal flanges
  • 3⁄4 in. Plywood base
  • Paint
  • Plates: various sizes & textures
  • Universal Mastic
  • Brush
  • Simple Grout
  • Sponge
  • Bucket
  • Water
  • Hammer
  • Towel

DIY Mosaic Table - Home & Family

Steps for Table

1. 24 Inch Square 3⁄4inch plywood top and a16-18 Inch Bottom

2. 28-30 Inch,1 1⁄2i n. metalpipe with threads top and bottom

3. Screw In The Flanges Top (underside) and bottom (topside)

4. 1x2 Inch pine trim flush with the base to create a lip around

5. Glue and nail

6. Paint the pipe and the base (spray paint or brush)

7. Wait to paint the 1x2 trim until mosaic is finished

Steps (Mosaic):

8. Choose plates. Look for embossing or texture

9. Layplatesupsidedownonaworksurfaceandcoverwithatowel.Usinga hammer, break the plates to the size of pieces you like

10. NOTE: Always wear safety goggles when breaking glass

11.Paint a coat of mastic over table surface or smear each piece of china and position in desired pattern

12. Arrange broken pieces to fill area

13.Once mastic sets, generously grout overall, getting in between all the pieces

14. Once dry, wash away all the excess grout, cleaning the china pieces so they are free of grout

15.Once completely dry paint the edges to match base 16. When dry, attach screw top to pipe base

TIP: Choose a design style and plates; rustic, modern or bistro classic

TIP: Use a tongue depressor or Popsicle stick to smooth grout in tight corners

TIP: Experiment with contrasting grout colors if you want a unique effect
