DIY Flying Saucer Invasion Pumpkins

Materials for Alien Pumpkins

  • Plastic Pumpkin
  • Foam pool noodles
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Styrofoam balls
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Wood blocks
  • Wood disks

Materials for Spaceship Pumpkins

  • Patio Umbrella
  • Plastic Tub
  • Plastic Punch Bowl
  • Zip Ties
  • Silver Spray Paint
  • LOW Hot Glue
  • LED Light strips
  • Flower pot trays
  • Wooden dowel
  • Pull apart party balls
DIY Flying Saucer and Alien Pumpkins - Home & Family

Directions for Alien Pumpkins

1. Paint top half one color & Paint bottom half another color
2. Cut pool noodles NOTE: If you are going to bend the arms, add a notch where the elbow would be. This is optional
3. Slice one pool noodle for waist
4. Attach arm noodles
5. Attach leg noodles
6. Attach feet blocks
7. Paint wood disks black (done) and…
8. Add 2 swathes of white paint to create eye highlights
9. Glue onto pumpkin
10. Twist 3 pipe cleaners together (for strength)
11. Attach Styrofoam balls to the pipe cleaners (LOW hot glue)
12. Trim length
13. Attach pool noodle arms to pumpkin (LOW hot glue)
14. Attach pipe cleaner antennae onto top (LOW hot glue)

TIPS:
1. Cut a V-shaped notch into pool noodle arms to create an elbow and move arms in different directions
2. Twist 3 ordinary pipe cleaners together if you can’t find extra-long craft pipe cleaners
3. Use low-temperature hot glue

Directions for Spaceship Pumpkins

1. Use a patio umbrella.
2. I used a regular plastic tub (you can find at target or home depot)
3. Cut hole in bottom to thread up Umbrella pole
4. Drill 2 holes at regular intervals to line up with umbrella spokes
5. Thread plastic zip ties through each set of holes to secure tub to canopy
6. Glue party punch bowl to top with fabric tack
7. Add: flower pot tray with dowel and deli cup lids and ball for antenna
8. Glue half balls onto canopy with fabric tack
9. Spray paint over all (silver)
10. If you are using a base, paint it white so the lights will disappear.
11. If you are inserting into the lawn you won’t need a base.
12. Attach LED light strips to (plastic tub) engine. You can let them dangle.
13. For alternate open cockpit: screw a punch bowl to a small block of wood attached to flower pot tray,
14. Paint silver and Glue to canopy top

TIP:
If using an umbrella base, paint it white to disappear in the lights
