Materials for Butternut Squash Vases
- Butternut Squash
- Kitchen Knife
- Scoop or spoon
- Flowers, fresh or faux
- Gold Foil Kit (Includes gold foil, adhesive and sealer)
- Paint Brush
- Plastic wrap (optional)
Materials for Fall Squash Candles
- Acorn squash or any other gourds or squash
- Kitchen Knife
- Scoop or spoon
- Paper towels
- Soy wax (specifically for candle making)
- Something to melt wax (Depending on what type of wax you get. Follow instructions on wax)
- Popsicle sticks
- Candle Wick
Directions for Vases
- Make sure the butternut squash stands flat. If not, slightly cut the bottom. If you do cut the bottom, place on a small plate.
- Cut top at desired length. Hollow out with spoon or scoop.
- After scooping, clean and dry outside of butternut squash.
- Apply adhesive to where you want to apply the gold foil kit. Let dry until tacky. Tip: Make sure to use clean and dry hands to apply foil.
- Place gold foil onto adhesive. Tip: Make sure to use clean and dry hands to apply foil.
- Use a soft brush to remove any excess foil.
- Use paint brush to apply sealer over gold foil.
- Allow to dry completely.
- Fill with water and add flowers.
- If needed, line butternut Squash Vase with plastic wrap.
Directions for Candles
- Make sure the squash stands flat. If not, slightly cut the bottom. If you do cut the bottom, place on a small plate.
- Cut top at desired length. Hollow out with spoon or scoop.
- Use paper towel to dry inside.
- Place wix into squash. Secure it into place using popsicle sticks and rubber band (so it won’t rise to the top).
- Melt wax according to directions on bag.
- Pour wax into squash.
- Let dry.
