Tanya’s DIY Button Projects

Materials for Hot Air Balloon:

  • Photo
  • Scissors
  • Canvas (whatever size you want)
  • Blue paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Hot glue
  • Buttons 
  • White felt
  • White yarn, string or thread
  • Colored paper to make the basket frame
  • Photo 

Materials for Tray:

  • Weather resistant glue
  • Old tray
  • Buttons 
  • Resin and hardener (optional)

Materials for Jeans:

  • Scissors
  • Pants
  • Three buttons
  • Colored darning thread
  • Darning needle

Directions for Balloon:

  1. Paint canvas blue
  2. Cut out white felt clouds
  3. Hot glue clouds
  4. Hot glue all your buttons *make 2/3 layers of buttons varying colors and sizes
  5. Along bottom of balloon 10/20 4” yarn strands
  6. Add buttons on top of glue line to conceal glue
  7. Cut ends of yarn evenly
  8. Glue down large buttons in corner as your “sun”
  9. Cut out 2 squares, 1 larger than the other in fun patterned paper
  10. Cut out center to create frame
  11. Add photo. Glue in between w/ frame on top
  12. Add whatever other embellishments you want

Directions for Tray:

  1. Buy tray or take old tray
  2. Repaint if needed/desired
  3. Put glue down starting at corners, sections by section, using weather proof glue
  4. Place buttons in different sizes and shapes to fill in all gaps. Using smaller buttons to fill in the holes
  5. Dry overnight
  6. Add resin (optional) to create smooth shiny surface. (mix equal perts resin and hardener)
  7. Pour over bottom of tray evenly
  8. Let sit for 24 hours

Directions for Jeans:

  1. Old pair of jeans
  2. Using a ruler and piece of chalk, draw on ¾, stem lengths varying in lengths. This creates the pattern for the flower
  3. 4 different colors of darning thread or yarn.
  4. Use a large needle and thread starting from below bottom of pant leg to knee area.
  5. Top it off with a button of your choice
