Luke Barr - Easy Ways to Decorate with Galvanized Pipe

DIY expert Luke Barr shows simple ways to transform our home décor with galvanized pipes.

MATERIALS:

    PIPE PIECES

    • Flanges
    • Connectors of desired size
    • 90-degree elbows
    • 1” x 6” wood planks
    • Wood screws
    • Power drill
    • Stain or white paint
    • Rags or paintbrush

    TO CREATE THE BOOKENDS

    • Wood glue
    • Nail gun or 1 ¼” screws

    OPTIONAL

    • Saw

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    TO CREATE THE PIPE BOOKENDS

    1. Cut the wood down to size, this can be done for you at the hardware store.

    2. Create a 90-degree butt joint with the two pieces that should look like an “l” from the side. Secure with wood glue and nail gun or screws along the joint.

    3. Stain or paint the wood as desired. Set aside to dry.

    4. Screw the pipe connectors into the elbows.

    5. Screw the flanges on to open ends of the connectors.

    6. Place the pipe form onto the wood and use your drill and some screws to secure the pipe to the “l” shape.

    7. Place in your décor and enjoy!

TO CREATE THE PIPE WALL SHELF

    1. Cut the wood down to size, this can be done for you at the hardware store.

PRO TIP: The wider the shelf, the more pipe supports you will have to add. If they need to hold weight they should be screwed into studs in the wall.

    2. Stain or paint the shelf with a whitewash as desired. Set aside to dry.

    3. Screw the connector pieces into the elbow.

    4. Screw the flanges on the open ends of the connectors until secure.

    5. Use your drill and some screws to screw one flange into the bottom of the wood.

    6. Screw the other flange into the wall.

    7. Repeat to create as many shelves as desired and enjoy!
