DIY Holiday Drink Stirrers - Home & Family
MATERIALS:
- Oven-bake polymer clay in Christmas colors
- Stir sticks
- Cookie cutters
- Rolling pin
- X-acto knife
- Baking pan
- Silicone baking sheet or parchment paper
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks or super glue
INSTRUCTIONS:
TO CREATE THE FLAT COOKIE CUTTER DRINK STIRRERS
- Roll out the clay onto a non-stick surface.
- Press the cookie cutter into the clay and remove. This should leave the excess clay on the work surface and the stirrer top in the cutter.
- Remove the clay from the cutter and use an x-acto knife to trim any messy edges. If you are creating the tree version, cut the trunk off.
- Insert the end of the stir stick into the bottom edge of the clay while it is still wet then remove.
- Repeat steps 1-5 to create as many cookie cutter cut outs as you’d like.
- Place the clay on a silicone baking sheet or parchment paper on a baking sheet and bake according to the clay instructions.
- Allow the clay stirrer tops to cool after baking.
- Insert the stir stick into the pre-made hole, add a dab of glue into the hole before to secure in place. Allow the glue to set and enjoy!
TO CREATE THE CANDY CANE DRINK STIRRERS
- Roll out two matching logs of clay in red and white on a non-stick surface.
- Twist the two logs together and roll on the work surface with the palm of your hand a little to meld them into one log with a peppermint twist.
- Create the hook in the candy cane by bending the top portion of the log.
- Trim the ends and flatten them with the palm of your hand or the x-acto knife.
- Insert the stir stick into the bottom of the candy cane to create a hole for it then remove it.
- Repeat steps 1-5 to create as many candy canes as you’d like.
- Place the candy canes on a non-stick baking surface and bake according to the directions.
- Allow the candy canes to cool after baking.
- Insert the stir stick into the pre-made hole, add a dab of glue into the hole before to secure in place. Allow the glue to set and enjoy!
TO CREATE THE CONE CHRISTMAS TREE STIRRERS
- Create the tree and trunk. First roll out the desired color for your tree, roll the clay into a ball then use the palm of your hand with more pressure on the outside of it to roll it into a cone shape. Trim the bottom flat with an x-acto if necessary. Use the same process with a brown color of clay for the trunk but use an x-acto to trim 2/3 of the top off.
- Attach the trunk to the tree by pushing them together delicately with some pressure, make sure they stick.
- If you want to add some detail, roll out some small balls of clay as ornaments or a small piece of flat white clay to add on as snow. Press into surface of tree to adhere.
- Repeat steps 1-3 to create as many trees as you’d like.
- Insert the stir stick into the bottom of the trunk to create a hole then remove it.
- Place the trees on a non-stick baking sheet, bake according to instructions.
- Allow the trees to cool after baking.
- Insert the stir stick into the pre-made hole, add glue into hole to secure before placing. Allow the glue to set and enjoy!
