DIY Faux Resin Jewelry

MATERIALS:

  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Holographic glitter
  • Crayons
  • Parchment paper
  • X-Acto knife
  • Cutting mat
  • Hole punch or leather punch
  • Jump rings large and small
  • Earring hooks
  • Jewelry pliers

OPTIONAL:

  • Carrot peeler
  • Metal ruler

INSTRUCTIONS:

To Create the Glitter Version:

  1. On a piece of parchment paper, lay a thin layer of hot glue.
  2. While it’s still wet, sprinkle some glitter into the hot glue.
  3. If the glitter is too clumped together or you want to tweak the way it’s laying, add another layer of glue and glitter if desired while it is still hot.
  4. Allow the glue to cool completely until hardened and pull it off the parchment paper. PRO TIP: if you want speed up the cooling process, pop it in the fridge for a couple minutes.

To Create the Marbled Version:

  1. Use an X-Acto knife or carrot peeler to shave crayons of desired color for marbling.
  2. On a piece of parchment paper, lay a thin layer of hot glue.
  3. While it’s still wet, sprinkle some crayon shavings into the hot glue. They will melt and being to swirl and marble on their own.
  4. Add more glue and shavings as desired making sure it doesn’t become too thick.
  5. Allow to cool until hardened and pull off parchment paper. PRO TIP: if you want speed up the cooling process, pop it in the fridge for a couple minutes.

To Create the Earrings:

  1. Use an X-Acto knife to cut the dried glue into desired shape for earrings. Cutting the entire glue piece in half first is helpful for making them symmetrical. PRO TIP: use a metal ruler to guide your knife if you’re not comfortable with free-handing.
  2. Create a hole in the top of the earring using a hole punch. If you want to create a specific size of hole in the earring use a leather punch.
  3. Add the larger jump ring to the earring using jewelry pliers.
  4. Open a smaller jump ring with pliers and slide the earring hook on, then attach it to the larger jump ring. Close with pliers.
  5. Repeat steps 11 and 12 on the other earring.
  6. Wear and enjoy!
