DIY Paper Fall Magnolia Leaves

Botanical sculptor Tiffanie Turner is getting you ready for fall with this festive and colorful DIY you can make at home.

Materials

  • tacky glue
  • 180 gram #567 light brown crepe paper
  • 180 gram #568 dark brown crepe paper
  • olive green doublette crepe paper
  • 22 or 24 gauge green cloth – covered stem wire
  • Mod Podge gloss
  • tacky glue
  • scissors
  • small paintbrush
  • wide paintbrush
  • wooden skewer

Directions

1. Use the magnolia leaf template as a guide and cut out leaves as closely to the template as possible (make sure grain matches 3 parallel lines)

2. Repeat this with the dark brown crepe paper

3. Glue the leaves together with tacky glue(laminate)

4. Coat the leaf with Mod Podge, allow to dry for 5 minutes

5. Fold lightly to crease the bottom two-thirds of the center rib

6. Cup the back of the leaf at each side so that most of the front of the leaf is slightly convex

7. Cut the top 1 1/2 “ of the face of the leaf at each side of the rib to be concave

8. Curl the edges all around the leaf back lightly on a hat pin or skewer, then flatten back out to lessen the effect

9. Wrap leaf stem wire with outstretched light brown crepe, extending paper 1” below the lead on the bottom 4” of wire

10. Form a pointed tip at the top

11. Glue the wrapped wire up the back of leaf and recup the leaf as needed
