DIY Horseshoe Photo Frames

Maria Provenzano is a Heartie and has a sweet way to display our happy memories inspired by “When Hope Calls.”

MATERIALS:

  • Cast iron horseshoes
  • Cork sheets
  • X-Acto knife
  • Cotton cording
  • Clear gorilla glue or hot glue
  • Pencil or marker

INSTRUCTIONS:

TO CREATE THE HANGING HORSESHOE FRAME:

1. Place the horseshoe over the cork sheet and trace it with a pen or pencil so that the cork will fit to the size of the horseshoe. Leave about an inch at the top so you can see the ends of the horseshoe.

2. Cut the cork with an X-Acto knife just inside the line you drew so it doesn’t show on the outside edges of the horseshoe. out.

3. Glue the cork onto the back of the horseshoe with hot glue or clear gorilla glue.

4. Use an X-Acto to poke holes through holes of the horseshoe and the cork so you can string the cording through.

5. Once the glue has dried, tie the twine through one of the holes in the horseshoe and tie a knot then wrap the twine around the top of the horseshoe and repeat with the other side.

6. Tie the two sides together and then hang.

7. Attach picture to the cork with a push pin and hang on the wall

TO CREATE THE STAND-ALONE FRAME:

1. Place the horseshoe over the cork sheet and trace with a pen or pencil so that the cork will fit to the size of the horseshoe. Leave about an inch at the top so you can see the ends of the horseshoe.

2. Cut the cork with an X-Acto knife just on the inside of your line so the cork doesn’t show on the outside edges of the horseshoe.

3. Glue the cork onto the back of the horseshoe with hot glue or gorilla glue.

4. Once the glue has dried, attach the horseshoe with the cork to another horseshoe to make a frame. Lay one of the horseshoes flat and apply clear gorilla glue at the top of the rounded part then place the horseshoe with the cork in the center onto the glue to make it stand.

5. While the glue is drying, hold it in place by leaning it on something like a can or candle.

6. Pin the picture into the cork once the photo is dry and enjoy!
