MATERIALS:
- Silicone coaster molds
- Concrete mix
- Concrete fiber reinforcement
- Water
- Container to mix concrete
- Stick to mix concrete such as a paint stirrer or popsicle stick
- Spray paint
- Cork
- Hot glue
OPTION:
- Face mask/gloves
DIRECTIONS:
1. Mix concrete in mixing container. Add the water to some of the powdered concrete and stir, add more water as needed; The ratio of powder to water is 1 tbsp water for every 4 tbsps of powder
2. Add a few of the fiber reinforcement pieces to the mix. The fiber reinforcement adds structure to the concrete mix so that the coasters won't break
3. Pour mix into the silicone molds. For chunky-style coasters, fill right up to the top with the cement mixture. If you'd like to make thinner coasters, pour in less mixture making sure mix is evenly filled
4. To help the mixture settle completely and to ensure it dries evenly and with as few air bubbles as possible, take any sort of utensil and tap the outside of the cup as well has drop mold from about an inch above working table.
5. Allow mix to cure and dry completely before removing from the molds (8-10 hours/ completely overnight)
6. Once dry and removed from molds, use sandpaper (if needed) to sand down any sharp edges
7. Spray Paint as desired
8. Hot glue cork on back on coaster to secure furniture surfaces
9. Enjoy new cement coasters!
