Why buy when you can DIY a new playhouse for kids.

MATERIALS:

  • One 30 x 30 box
  • Box cutter 
  • Packing tape
  • White printer paper
  • Scissors
  • Spray adhesive
  • Paint; optional 
  • Foam core 
  • X-acto knife 
  • Drawer pole/wood bead
  • Cutting mat
  • Hot glue

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Use the box cutter to cut the four flaps off of the top of the box and the four flaps off of the bottom of the box

2. Create a triangle out of one of the flaps that will fit on two of the sides of the box

3. Attach the triangle to the top of the two sides with packing tape

4. Create the roof are using three of the flaps and simply taping them together with packing tape

5. The center where they are connected only needs to be taped on one side while the other is going perpendicular to that need to be attached on the top and the bottom

6. Cut rectangles out of the white printer paper to look like bricks

7. Spray the white paper with spray adhesive and attach to the house and repeat until completely covered

8. Cut in a perfect rectangles or squares out of the foam sheets and attach to the roof to create shingles, these can be attached with hot glue

9. Place the roof on top of the house, you can attach the roof if desired or do not attach so that it can be folded and put away

10. Add additional details such as snow to place it on which is a large sheet of felt

11. Another detail is to add the wreath to the front door and a drawer poles or wood bead to create a handle to the door

12. To create a finished looking door cut a door shape out of foam core using a ruler and X-Acto knife

13. This can be attached with hot glue as well

14. Another additional detail is the white picket fence, which can be created by cutting the shape out of foam core as well using an X-Acto knife
