Maria Provenzano’s DIY cake stands will make your cakes stand out with a cake topping favorite – sprinkles.

MATERIALS:

  • Cake stand
  • Spray paint in desired color for base
  • Dishwasher safe, non-toxic decoupage
  • Paintbrushes
  • Lazy Susan

To Create the Sprinkle Version:

  • Paint pens in various colors

To Create the Speckled Faux Enamel Version:

  • Acrylic non-toxic paint
  • Toothbrush

INSTRUCTIONS:

To Create the Sprinkle Version

  1. Spray paint the base to desired color, ours is a fun pink! Allow the paint to dry completely. PRO TIP: Place the cake stand on a lazy Susan then spin as you paint to give it nice even coats of paint quickly.
  2. Add the sprinkles using the various colors of paint pens. Make about ½” line marks all over the cake stand. Try to keep from cluttering the same color in any one area. Set aside and allow to dry completely. PRO TIP: Place the cake stand on a lazy Susan then spin as you add the sprinkles to make sure the sprinkle distribution is even all around.
  3. Paint a thick coat of the dishwasher safe decoupage all over as a sealant. Allow the sealant to cure for full time needed according to the brand's instructions then enjoy!

To Create the Speckled Faux Enamel Version

  1. Spray paint the base to desired color, ours is white. Allow the paint to dry completely. PRO TIP: Place the cake stand on a lazy Susan then spin as you paint to give it nice even coats of paint quickly.
  2. Now it’s time to splatter paint! Pour the splatter paint color into a container, dip the paintbrush in and use your thumb to stroke the bristles back, flicking the paint so that it splatters all over the cake stand as you spin it on the lazy Susan for even coverage all the way around. PRO TIP: You can wear gloves for this, but the technique is more effective if you don’t.
  3. Allow the paint to dry completely.
  4. Paint a thick coat of the dishwasher safe decoupage all over as a sealant.
  5. Allow the sealant to cure for full time needed according to the brand's instructions then enjoy!
