Shirley Bovshow tells us how we can keep tropical plants giving all year long.

Bromeliads grow best in 65-80 degrees and in a space that is slightly humid. If your air is dry, add a humidifier or a bowl with some rocks near it to give it some humidity. Bromeliads take in water through their leaves, not their roots so humidity is important.

TO PLANT BROMELIADS IN A POT:

  • Separate the pups from the mother plant at the base
  • Add hydrated coconut coir and orchid bark in equal parts and mix
  • Put your new plants in the pot and watch grow

TO PLANT BROMELIADS IN WOOD:

  • Find a piece of wood with a medium-size hole.
  • Add some damp coconut coir to the whole
  • Add in your baby bromeliad and watch it grow
