When you meet Orly Shani it is clear that she has a love for all things fashion – a love that grew from a seed planted by her mother. As a teenager, growing up in Los Angeles, Orly would design and make clothes with her mom. As she grew older, Orly tried to hone her skills, learning through extensive trial and error and no formal training.
Without realizing it, Orly started her first line as a teenager – Orly Couture; a one-of-a kind collection made from reconstructed vintage. The line was born out of Orly’s love of the fashion she was seeing in her favorite magazines but the inability to afford any of it. She began visiting vintage stores in LA and transforming the old threads she found into the looks she courted. Within a year, Orly Couture became a lead brand in “Confederacy”, one of Los Angeles’ top celebrity-owned boutiques.
In 2010, Orly started tuc+wes, a colorful collection of convertible t-shirts. It was based on tuc+wes that Orly was chosen as a designer on the hit NBC reality competition show “Fashion Star.” For the show, which aired in the fall of 2012, Orly focused her work on the principle that all women should have quality, multi-functional garments at a great value. It was based on this notion that Orly designed the “convertible skirt” which became the highlight of the season.
Orly has taken the knowledge she gained on the show and is currently expanding tuc+wes into a full e-commerce retailer providing weekly fashion under $50 along with her own Tuc+Wes Collection.
Orly’s relatable and accessible persona has made her a TV hit. She began by hosting her own digital series for NBC.com, The Triple Cut on Clevver TV, The Unexpected Insider for Suave Professionals and Style Caster, where she interviewed Nicole Richie, John Varvatos, Louise Roe, Whitney Port, Brad Goreski and many more.
She moved on as a style contributor for Hallmark’s Home & Family, E! News and The Today Show on NBC.
She has guest hosted numerous shows for E! Including Fashion Police, Live From The Red Carpet, Live From Fashion Week and Live From E!
In the spring of 2014 Orly co-hosted her own show on the E! Network, The Fabulist, alongside TV personality Kristin Cavallari. Later that year, Orly co-hosted Who wore it Better, with E! personality Catt Sadler and has since joined the E! Network as part of their internal fashion and style talent.
