Oscar Nominee Barkhad Abdi

Barkhad Abdi
Hollywood newcomer Barkhad Abdi discusses how he went from chauffering a limo to his Oscar nominated role as a Somali pirate in the critically acclaimed "Captain Phillips." After hearing an advertisement for a local casting call for a Somali actor, the un-trained actor was called back multiple times before being offered the role of a lifetime to star alongside Tom Hanks. Barkhad is credited for ad-libbing the most profound line in the film, "I am the captain now," when he takes over control of the ship. Once fearing for his life in Somalia before escaping to Yemen and later the U.S., Barkhad's biggest concern now is deciding who to take as his date to the Academy Awards.
" Captain Phillips" is in theaters now and available on Blu-ray tomorrow. You can follow him on Twitter @realbarkhad.

The Oscars air live on Sunday, March 2 at 7e/6c/4p on ABC.
