Apple Brown Betty
Host of "Chomp on This with Kimlai," Kimlai Yingling is making a sweet treat in the kitchen.


  • 4 cups sliced apples (Either Granny Smith or Braeburn)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. old fashioned oats
  • 2/3 c. all purpose flour
  • 2/3 c. melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • A pint of Vanilla bean ice cream
  • Small container of Creme Fraiche

1. Grease square 8x8 glass dish

2. Slice up the apples (remove the peel too) then add lemon zest, cinnamon and nutmeg and mix well

3. Place the apples in the bottom of the greased glass baking dish

4. Sprinkle lemon juice over the apples

5. In another bowl, mix/sift all dry ingredient - flour, oats and brown sugar then add the melted butter

6. Put the flour-butter mix over the sliced apples

7. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

8. Serve warm with a dollop of creme fraiche on top and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on the side
