Lane's rock band debut ends badly when the animosity between Jess and Dean results in a fistfight. Meanwhile, Lorelai serves on a committee and is uncomfortably reunited with Max.

After the brawl between Jess and Dean, Lane is in trouble and Luke is furious at Jess. But ironically, Lorelai is proud of Rory. Later, Jess ponders a major decision.

Jess travels to Venice, California where his father, Jimmy, lives. The reunion causes tension with Jimmy's girlfriend. Also, Lorelai agonizes over paying for Rory's Yale education.

In the season finale, Rory and Lorelai happily prepare for Rory's graduation from Chilton. But major developments involving the Independence Inn threaten to dampen the festivities.


SEASON 4

Upon returning from backpacking in Europe, Lorelai and Rory embark on a week of mother/daughter activities, in bittersweet anticipation of Rory going away to Yale as a freshman.

EPISODE 2 • “The Lorelais' First Day at Yale"

Mother and daughter move Rory into her dormitory at Yale, where she meets a strange new roommate, Tanna, and learns that her old adversary, Paris, will also be sharing her room.

EPISODE 3 • “The Hobbit, the Sofa and Digger Stiles"

At her first Yale party, Rory encounters twins who were instructed by Emily to keep her safe. Meanwhile, Lorelai and Sookie cater a kids' "Lord of the Rings"-themed birthday party.

EPISODE 4 • “Chicken or Beef?”

While Rory visits Stars Hollow for the weekend, Dean awkwardly invites her to his wedding the next day. Lorelai and Sookie try to get construction started on the Dragonfly Inn.

EPISODE 5 • “The Fundamental Things Apply”

Rory goes on her first date since Jess and finds that college dating isn't going to be easy. Lorelai invites Luke over for the traditional movie night she used to share with Rory.

EPISODE 6 • “An Affair to Remember”

Richard's business partner, Jason "Digger" Stiles, surprises Lorelai when he asks her out to dinner. Meanwhile, Rory has a tough time finding a decent place to study at Yale.

EPISODE 7 • “The Festival of Living Art”

Stars Hollow hosts a festival in which the townspeople present tableaux imitating famous paintings. Lorelai helps calm Sookie. Luke's wife, Nicole, wants to postpone their divorce.

Rory's scathing review of the Yale ballet makes her the lead ballerina's target. Jason gets himself invited to Friday night dinner so he can continue flirting with Lorelai.

Lorelai decides to stop worrying about Emily's feelings and accept Jason's dinner invitation. Richard introduces Paris to a former classmate of his, now a Yale professor.

While Lorelai and Sookie work on renovating their new inn, Michel clashes with a rival. Meanwhile, Lorelai happily spends a romantic night at Jason's house, despite his quirks.

Lorelai realizes Luke is reluctant to move to another town and admits that she doesn't want him to leave. Meanwhile, Rory learns that a fellow student is gossiping about her.

After Lorelai and Luke spend a romantic night together, their relationship is discussed at the town meeting. Meanwhile, Rory spars with a haughty, rich student named Logan.

Rory regrets her agreement with Logan to date other people. Now that Lorelai and Luke are reunited, Emily can't understand why Lorelai still refuses to come to Friday night dinner.

When Stars Hollow's oldest resident dies and leaves his house to the town, Luke has an ulterior motive for volunteering to help turn the house into a temporary museum.

After a long absence, Christopher reappears. Lorelai and Rory enjoy their first Thanksgiving at the Dragonfly Inn, and Rory receives surprising news about Logan.

Lorelai sets a date for the wedding after finding the perfect dress. Back at Yale, Rory happily moves into a dingy off-campus apartment with Paris and Doyle.

EPISODE 12 • “Just Like Gwen and Gavin”

Before Luke tells Lorelai about his daughter's existence, April goes to hang out with him at the diner and innocently chats with Lorelai. At Yale, Logan takes steps to win Rory back.

EPISODE 13 • “Friday Night's Alright for Fighting”

While Luke deals with the reality of having his daughter in his life, Lorelai pretends she doesn't mind the repercussions. Rory and Paris clash over the Yale Daily News.

EPISODE 14 • “You've Been Gilmored”

Wanting to get to know her future son-in-law better, Emily asks Lorelai to invite Luke over for dinner. The Yale Daily News staff fires Paris and chooses Rory to be the new editor.

EPISODE 15 • “A Vineyard Valentine”

As Valentine's Day approaches, Rory and Logan invite Lorelai and Luke to spend a weekend with them at Logan's family house on Martha's Vineyard.

EPISODE 16 • “Bridesmaids Revisited”

Lorelai babysits Christopher's young daughter and is horrified by her behavior. At the wedding of Logan's sister, Honor, Rory learns how Logan spent his time during their breakup.

EPISODE 17 • “I'm OK, You're OK”

Rory needs some time for herself, so she visits Lorelai. Despite Lorelai's refusal, Rory can tell she's bothered that Luke will be gone for a few days on his daughter's field trip.

EPISODE 18 • “The Real Paul Anka”

Lorelai has a bizarre dream about singer/songwriter PAUL ANKA. Although Rory and Logan are back together, Logan is miserable knowing that Rory hasn't really forgiven him.

EPISODE 19 • “I Get a Sidekick out of You"

Lorelai and Rory's plans for Lane's bachelorette party go awry, as do the plans made by Zach's buddies, so the two groups end up together for a makeshift party in a vacant parking lot.

EPISODE 20 • “Super Cool Party People”

When Luke's birthday party for April is a disaster, Lorelai has a chance to bond with April while turning the event into a success. Rory rushes to be with Logan at the hospital.

EPISODE 21 • “Driving Miss Gilmore”

Emily reveals a surprise that catches Lorelai completely off guard. Meanwhile, Rory takes charge of Logan's recovery when he is released from the hospital.

EPISODE 22 • “Partings”

On the evening of Logan's graduation from Yale, Rory throws him a party. Realizing that she was wrong to let Luke postpone their wedding for so long, Lorelai delivers an ultimatum.

EPISODE 1 • “The Long Morrow”

In the season premiere, Lorelai wakes up in bed with Christopher. Rory receives a parting gift from Logan when he goes to London, and she's baffled as to its meaning.

EPISODE 2 • "That's What You Get, Folks, For Makin' Whoopie"

Rory's upset over Logan's absence and the fact that they had to cancel a long-planned trip. When Luke and Lorelai run into each other, Luke can't hide his anger over their breakup.

EPISODE 3 • “Lorelai's First Cotillion"

Lorelai realizes that most of her emotional life has been based on doing the opposite of whatever her parents want. Rory struggles to make her long-distance relationship work.

EPISODE 4 • “'S Wonderful, 'S Marvelous"

Lorelai and Christopher resume their relationship, and he keeps coming up with romantic dates to win her over. At Yale, Rory meets some eccentric new friends at an art exhibit.

EPISODE 5 • “The Great Stink”

Emily and Richard are delighted when Lorelai and Christopher attend Friday night dinner together as a couple. Meanwhile, in town on business, Logan visits the surprised Rory.

EPISODE 6 • “Go Bulldogs!”

Lorelai is surprised to find that Richard and Emily are at Yale Parents' Weekend. Trying to impress Rory's co-workers, Christopher invites them to an expensive lunch.

EPISODE 7 • “French Twist”

Christopher and Lorelai take his daughter G.G. to visit the girl's mother in Paris. As Rory's tenure as editor in chief ends, she finds herself unsure of her future.

EPISODE 8 • “Introducing Lorelai Planetarium”

Lorelai tells Rory that she and Christopher got married in Paris. Meanwhile, back in town for the startup of his new Internet company, Logan invites Rory to the launch party.

EPISODE 9 • “Knit, People, Knit”

To help Christopher bond with the Stars Hollow townspeople, Lorelai brings him to the knit-a-thon, where his well-intentioned gesture brings the event to an early end.

EPISODE 10 • “Merry Fisticuffs”

A sweet moment between Luke and Lorelai prompts Christopher to become concerned that Lorelai isn't fully committed to their marriage.

EPISODE 11 • “Santa's Secret Stuff”

Christopher, Lorelai and Rory celebrate Christmas as a family. Luke asks Lorelai to write a letter to help in his custody battle over April, and Rory writes an apology to Lucy.

EPISODE 12 • “To Whom It May Concern”

After noticing Sookie's recent odd behavior, Lorelai forces Jackson to tell her the reason for it. While attending Richard's economics class, Rory witnesses a frightening scene.

EPISODE 13 • “I'd Rather Be in Philadelphia”

Lorelai, Rory and Emily anxiously await word on Richard's condition. Logan borrows a helicopter to be by Rory's side, but Lorelai is unable to reach Christopher.

EPISODE 14 • “Farewell, My Pet”

Richard is on the road to recovery after heart surgery. To distract herself from the issues in her marriage, Lorelai joins Sookie to plan the funeral of one of Michel's dogs.

EPISODE 15 • “I'm a Kayak, Hear Me Roar”

Over a bottle of scotch, Lorelai finally tells her mother about her breakup. Rory attends an awkward birthday dinner for Logan with his father, Mitchum, who asks her for a favor.

EPISODE 16 • “Will You Be My Lorelai Gilmore?”

Amidst planning Lane's baby shower, Rory gets a call from The New York Times offering her an informational interview. Meanwhile, Logan finally admits his business disaster to Rory.

EPISODE 17 • “Gilmore Girls Only”

Lorelai and Rory plan a road trip to North Carolina to attend the wedding of Mia, a woman who served as their surrogate mother/grandmother. And Logan makes a surprise appearance.

EPISODE 18 • “Hay Bale Maze”

As Stars Hollow prepares for its Spring Fling festival, Rory shows Logan around. When Lorelai sees how serious the relationship is, she worries that Logan is too irresponsible.

EPISODE 19 • “It's Just Like Riding a Bike"

Lorelai and Luke's irritation with each other explodes into a fight--which Lorelai secretly takes as a good sign. And Rory gets a surprising letter that impacts her future plans.

EPISODE 20 • “Lorelai? Lorelai?”

As finals approach, Rory has a scary dream about her future. Also, she has news that might change Richard and Emily's plans. Lorelai rocks a karaoke bar with a serenade to Luke.

EPISODE 21 • “Unto the Breach”

On the eve of Rory's graduation, Emily and Richard host a party in her honor. Lorelai and Christopher reunite for the first time since their separation, and Logan proposes to Rory.

EPISODE 22 • “Bon Voyage”

In the emotional series finale, after Rory lands her dream job as a political reporter, Luke enlists the help of everyone in Stars Hollow to throw her a graduation party.
