Amanda and Mae were once inseparable, but as they grew older, Mae shielded Amanda from the harsh realities of their lives. Amanda, however, never wanted protection. When Mae urged her to skip marriage and move to New York, Amanda rejected her, insisting Mae go without her.
That moment created a rift between them. Mae’s doubt planted a seed in Amanda’s mind, casting a shadow over her marriage. Over the years, their lack of communication led to misconceptions about each other’s lives. Amanda had always been someone who stayed—until last night.
Meanwhile, the town is unraveling. Mean-spirited pranks, gossip, and fractured families dominate conversations. The town pastor urges people to stop the division and embrace forgiveness.
Amanda crashes in Shawna’s guest room, where Shawna offers support. Nancy urges Frank Jr. to atone and make things right with Amanda.
Hungover, Sabrina gets a scolding from Linzey, who later asks her mom to stay out of sight while she Zooms with her dad to discuss his wedding.
Amanda tells Gus she left Frank Jr. and asks to stay with her, but Gus refuses. Amanda, hurt and lost, realizes she has nowhere to go.
Linzey and Frankie spend time together, and Frankie confesses she’s never dated anyone before. When she mentions her parents’ separation, Linzey shares that her parents’ divorce was the best thing that ever happened to her—she got two of everything, and they were happier apart.
Amanda tries to book a room at the Inn, but it’s fully booked. Mae, spotting her, offers her extra bed. Patrick also extends an offer, but upon learning Sergio is staying there, Amanda reluctantly agrees to room with Mae instead.
Nancy visits Gus, hoping to find common ground, but Gus remains wary.
Meanwhile, Frankie asks her dad if he ever complimented Amanda. Clueless as ever, he struggles with the concept.
At the café, Patrick wants to close early, but Sabrina needs a place to hang out while Linzey is on her call. The handyman offers her a hangover remedy.
In their shared room, Mae notices Amanda’s chicken sketches, impressed by how her art has evolved. Amanda assumes Mae is reveling in her misery and apologizes for not being perfect like her. Mae, in turn, admits Jay isn’t speaking to her because she lied about her past and family. She doesn’t think she deserves him, and now he won’t take her calls. She’s a mess, and Amanda, surprisingly, giggles. Amanda apologizes, admitting it’s comforting to see Mae struggling too. They begin to soften toward each other.
Nancy visits Pastor McGregor, seeking advice on reaching someone too proud to accept an olive branch. She doesn’t want to contribute to the town’s divide. He encourages her to listen to her heart and keep trying. As she compliments him, there’s a subtle spark between them.
Later, Patrick brings Amanda a slice of pie, and she shares it with Mae. They reflect on why their mother never talked about feelings.
Meanwhile, Frankie helps her dad brainstorm reasons he loves Amanda. He initially lists only practical things, but Frankie reframes them into something deeper. Overcome with emotion, he admits he’s made a mess of everything.
Mae is stunned by Frank Jr.’s betrayals in their marriage. Amanda, however, reminds her that he’s not the only one who’s made mistakes—she confesses she kissed Sergio. She wonders if that makes her a bad person, but Mae won’t let her say that. Amanda admits the kiss was incredible but insists it’s over. Mae reassures her, saying Sergio is obsessed with her because she’s beautiful and intelligent.
Later, Sabrina finds Linzey in tears—her dad skipped their Zoom call. Linzey feels abandoned in favor of his fiancée. Sabrina reassures her that he’s the one missing out. Linzey is everything to her, and she urges her daughter never to settle for stingy love.
Mae finally admits she never hated Frank Jr.—she just hated that he held her back from her dreams. Amanda confesses that for her, he was an escape from their mother’s house. This makes Mae question if she ever was truly independent. Jay made her happy, but she was too closed off to see it. Now, it may be too late.
In the middle of the night, Amanda wakes up to find Mae crying. She lays down beside her as Mae whispers, “I made a mess of everything.”
Linzey, meanwhile, surprises Sabrina by admitting she actually likes Merinac. Sabrina is proud of her.
At Nancy’s house, she tries to fix Gus’ vandalized hydrangeas until Gus interrupts. Nancy, frustrated by how Amanda keeps trying with Gus, with no appreciation, finally snaps. And when Gus fights back, Nancy confronts her about what she saw—her with a married man. Gus denies everything, and they get into a physical scuffle. Unbeknownst to them, Sabrina catches it all on camera.
Frank Jr. arrives at the inn with flowers, apologizing and asking for another chance. Amanda sees the gesture as sweet, but not enough. Desperate, he begs her to stay, asking if she really wants to break up their family. After hesitating, she agrees to give him another chance.
As she packs, Mae questions her decision. Amanda insists that marriage is hard. Mae counters—it’s not supposed to be this hard. But Amanda is torn and leaves anyway.
Frankie notices Mae’s unease and asks why she isn’t happy about their reunion. Mae realizes Amanda has to save herself.
Back home, Amanda slips back into her old routine, subservient to Frank Jr. Frankie watches, realizing that her mother’s return might not be the happy ending she thought it was.
Meanwhile, Gus enters Amanda’s cluttered childhood room. It becomes clear—it’s not that she didn’t have room for Amanda in her heart. She just didn’t have room for her in her house.
