Amanda alerts Frankie that the weasel is now trapped inside their closet, leaving Frankie horrified as Amanda heads out.
The mayor delivers good news to Nancy: her petition has been approved, though the committee won’t vote for three weeks. Nancy immediately panics knowing that she’ll be away with Bo when it happens.
At work, Mae arrives late, expecting Gus’ wrath. Instead, Gus is in unusually high spirits. The reason soon appears: Clayton. He invites Mae to dinner, suggests they split the check, and kisses her goodbye.
Dudley nervously asks Frankie to prom.

Amanda vents to Mae about her lack of control. She says Frank Jr. won’t sign divorce papers, and Sergio is reconciling with his ex-wife. Mae tries to calm her with encouragement.
Frankie hesitates over Dudley’s promposal, reflecting on her parents’ own prom night.
Rodney is impressed with Frank Jr.’s chicken. A thrilled Frank Jr. asks him to spread the word.
Nancy seeks Gus’ advice about her scheduling conflict. Gus reassures her that she should go on her trip, as the meeting won’t resolve anything.
Mae tells Jay that Clayton feels more like a father than she expected. Jay thinks it’s cool he’s back but suspects another motive. Mae prefers to happily believe he’s just making an effort.

Amanda reminds Frankie that they don’t need men to solve their problems.
Nancy shares with Bo how important her petition is, suggesting she could join him later on the trip. But Bo insists on being with her for her first flight, and Nancy reluctantly agrees to let the matter go.
Over dinner, Clayton and Gus reminisce warmly. He raises a public toast to Gus, declaring her his first love and ending the shameful secrecy of their past relationship.
At home, Amanda talks to the weasel through the closet door, then finally releases it back outside. Taking charge of her life, she changes the locks on her doors.
Mae asks if Clayton is comfortable sitting beside Gus at dinner. He in turn asks if he can walk her down the aisle, and she agrees. They bond further on a walk.
Later, Frankie heads to the Chicken Sisters for pie and confides in Nancy that Dudley doesn’t give her butterflies. Nancy advises her to follow her heart.
Shawna is unsettled by Gus’ cheerful demeanor. Just then, Amanda arrives, glowing with newfound confidence. Sergio bristles when Travis flirts with Amanda, accusing her of acting strange ever since Nikita appeared. Amanda snaps that what she does is none of his business.
Nancy later tells Bo she can’t go on the trip. She’s tired of being “the woman behind the man” and wants to stand on her own.
Clayton tosses a football with Mae. When she asks why he never came back, he admits he did once but saw Gus had moved on. Mae realizes with disappointment that he didn’t stay for her.
Distraught, Mae spirals, telling Jay she doubts Clayton returned for her. Jay comforts her.
Frankie breaks things off with Dudley and tells Nancy about it—at the same time Nancy reveals she won’t be going on the trip. The two share a tender moment, with Frankie admitting she’ll miss Nancy when she goes to college.
At dinner, Gus notices Clayton has fixed her stove burners and feels unsettled. Clayton professes his love and says he wants to show her the world. They fall into a kiss.
Meanwhile, Sergio apologizes to Amanda for picking a fight and admits he told Nikita to leave for Chicago. Amanda protests that she saw him kiss her, but Sergio clarifies that she misread the situation. When Amanda asks why he never texted her back, she realizes she never actually sent the message. He asks what it said, so she reads it aloud while tossing coins into the “Lie Jar.”
In the end, letting go can set you free, though sometimes you wish someone would still hold on.
Then, during dinner, Gus suddenly grows shaky, struggles to speak—and collapses into Clayton’s arms.
