Ayorinde leads the cast of a six-part Amazon Studio and ITV drama series called Riches alongside Hugh Quarshie. The series, written by Abby Ajayi, follows the exploits of the brash, super-successful and wealthy Richards family after their patriarch suffers a sudden medical emergency, causing the family’s world to come crashing down. Riches debuted in December 2022 on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. and on ITV in the U.K. Collider praised, “Ayorinde gives a stellar performance, leading the ensemble cast; she commands every scene she’s in with a quiet presence and compelling delivery.”
Ayorinde recently wrapped filming for season two of Little Marvin’s limited anthology series, Them: Scare where she will be starring opposite Pam Grier and Luke James. She received rave reviews for her performance in season one Them: Covenant. The series released in April 2021 on Amazon Prime and premiered at the SXSW Film Festival where it won an Audience Award for Best Episodic Premiere. Time praised, “Ayorinde gives the season’s most arresting performance, and she is as convincing as ever here.” Decider hailed, “Then there’s Deborah Ayorinde. Ayorinde’s ‘Lucky’ is the soul of this season, both the bleeding heart that makes you love this family and a constant foil to classic leading lady horror tropes. She’s a woman who always acts instead of reacts, asserting herself in a world that wants her to disappear.” The series explores terror in America with an intersection between physical and paranormal forces. Them: Scare will once again be set in Los Angeles County but will move the time frame forward to 1991. The story centers on LAPD Detective Dawn Reeve (Ayorinde), who is assigned to a new case: a gruesome murder that has left the most hardened detectives shaken. As Dawn draws closer to the truth, something malevolent grips her and her family.
Ayorinde can also be seen starring in the second season of Apple TV+ drama series, Truth Be Told alongside Octavia Spencer and Kate Hudson. Additional TV credits include Luke Cage (Netflix) and True Detective (HBO Max). Film credits include Kasi Lemmon’s Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG and BET Award-nominated film, Rachel Ross, NAACP award winning, Girls Trip and the People’s Choice nominated film, Fatherhood.
