Detective Sam collects evidence at the barn. Meanwhile, Emily is at the hospital despite her reservations. Anna explains that whatever was in Gordon’s flask triggered a heart attack. Emily brings up the flask, and Anna mentions Gordon liked a drink after wagon rides, especially after his wife died. When Emily asks about retirement, Anna insists that’s not an option since she’s been working toward inheriting the farm.
Sam confronts Emily about being at the farm. She claims she gave her statement, but he’s not satisfied. Later, they meet at the diner, where Sam warns her against playing detective. Emily argues she’s trying to clear June’s name. Sam reminds her two men were poisoned—one is dead, and the other’s in critical condition. Emily sarcastically questions his confidence in June’s guilt, joking there could be an accomplice. Sam admits it’s possible since the cookie came from June’s shop, and she was with Gordon before he collapsed. They agree to share information, but Sam refuses to keep her fully in the loop.
Brooke interrupts, assuming they’re a couple, which they awkwardly deny.
Emily reviews photos from the wagon ride, piecing together a timeline. Lizzy’s boyfriend is missing from the photos, despite making a reservation under a fake name.
At her shop, Violet mentions hearing a rumor that her dad is dating someone new. Emily deflects, but Violet doesn’t believe the rumor, saying her dad’s too busy spending all his free time with her.
Ray calls Emily to his shop, revealing Gordon racked up $30k in gambling debts, which he mysteriously paid off. Emily suspects a connection to Trent, the bank’s senior manager. She spots Trent on the street wearing a coat from the farm photos. When confronted, he nervously denies being at the farm. Emily presses him about Joey Vaughn and suggests the police would be interested. Trent admits he attended under a fake name to catch Lizzy with Marcus. He offers Emily no further information about Marcus’s bank account, but she’s suspicious.
Later, Emily sees Anna and mentions Trent seeing her at a gas station that night, but Anna denies it. Visiting June, Emily reveals Marcus withdrew $40k before his death. June is stunned—the police never mentioned it and wonders if it’s connected to his murder.
Sam runs into Emily before a holiday event with Violet, but Violet cancels and suggests he take Emily instead. At the event, they share friendly conversation until Emily mentions Marcus agreeing to a down payment for the farm, but there’s no sign of the money. Sam’s angry, feeling Emily’s fishing for information and leaves.
Emily suspects Gordon used the money to pay off his gambling debts, but she still doesn’t know who poisoned Marcus. Back at her shop, Violet encourages her dad to create new Christmas traditions instead of repeating old ones, except Christmas karaoke, which she wants to keep.
At the farm, Emily finds employees being let go. She tells Anna she knows about Gordon’s debts and suggests Marcus’s payment changed his mind about selling. Anna becomes defensive and throws Emily out.
Later, Emily spots Lizzy outside her shop and invites her in. Lizzy reveals she was being blackmailed for $40k to keep Trent from finding out Marcus was the father of her baby. She asked Marcus for help. The money was to be left behind the stables by a tree with a bow. Marcus shares his cookie with Lizzy for comfort after dropping off the money. Emily urges her to come forward with this information.
Sam wonders how Emily convinced Lizzy to talk. June is released but remains a person of interest. Emily tells June Marcus was buying the farm for them, fulfilling June’s dream. June recalls visiting a sick horse, Shadow, at the farm but mentions Gordon didn’t have a phone, contradicting Anna’s story.
Emily confronts Anna at the farm office, accusing her of being the blackmailer. Anna confesses she overheard Marcus and Lizzy discussing the baby and needed the money to protect her father. But she insists she didn’t kill Marcus. Emily tells her to clean up her mess and leaves.
In the barn, Emily discovers Rowan’s backpack with Pentobarbital. Rowan appears, threatening her with a pitchfork. Emily falls through the loft, waking up tied up next to Anna. Rowan reveals he poisoned Gordon’s flask, but Marcus drank it instead. Rowan admits stealing the Pentobarbital from June’s bag. His motive? Gordon betrayed him by backing out of their deal. Rowan comes up with a story where Emily exposes Anna, and Anna retaliates and poisons Emily.
Emily tricks him by pretending to record their conversation. As Rowan searches for her phone, Emily signals Anna to startle the Shadow who knocks Rowan unconscious. Emily frees herself and Anna, and they call the police.
Sam arrives, relieved Emily is safe, just as snow begins to fall. Lizzy and Trent reconcile. Gordon starts to recover, and Emily and June attend Christmas karaoke with Sam and Violet.
Later, Emily receives a mysterious black box and smiles as she opens it.
