Recap: The Finale - Episode 8
Marvin’s backup battery restores the Manetti-Hanahan family’s Christmas lights, but Wally notices the rest of the neighborhood remains dark. Connie insists they share their good fortune and invite everyone over. Meanwhile, Manny sees their house glowing and assumes they’re rubbing it in.
On Christmas morning, Josh visits Nora with coffee and offers to help assemble Theo’s bike. As they work, they reminisce. When Nora asks why he isn’t on his way to Sydney, Josh admits his flight was canceled but suggests there might be something between them. Nora, acknowledging their different worlds, asks him to leave to avoid confusing Theo, though she deeply appreciates his kindness.
Gail and Linda have an awkward hallway encounter. Gail senses tension and is surprised when Linda notes that Robert, like a gentleman, slept on the couch.
Lucy and Annie find Sylvie at the bakery, where she admits embarrassment over her situation with Christoph. Lucy reassures her, saying she’s proud of Sylvie for putting herself out there. When the jukebox mysteriously starts playing, they take it as a sign from their late mother.
At the Manetti-Hanahan home, Wally welcomes the Lin family, while Connie asks Chuck to retrieve the Camarenas. On his way, Chuck encounters Manny, and they realize their wives have orchestrated their peacemaking efforts. They agree to a Christmas truce and shake hands.
Meanwhile, Katie asks Gaby about Kevin. Gaby believes that once Kevin sees the families getting along, he will too. Katie then offers Gaby advice on her audition video, which Gaby gratefully accepts.
Linda searches for Gail, but Robert reveals he told Gail he wasn’t ready to jump into another relationship. Meanwhile, Lucy and Sylvie encourage Annie to talk to Max, and Sylvie surprises Lucy by revealing she invited Cole.
Back at Nora’s house, Theo notices two coffee cups and excitedly realizes Josh stopped by. Thrilled that Josh didn’t leave for Australia, he wants to give him a gift.
Steve and Lois thank the kids for pulling off a Christmas surprise for Nai Nai. Just as Nai Nai approaches, she mentions feeling unwell and wonders if she’ll be around next Christmas. Wanting to witness Ella’s wedding today, she notes that Wally is a minister. Ted protests, but Nai Nai insists that in Chinese tradition, one cannot refuse such a request. Ted, Marcus, and Ella are left stunned.
News of the impromptu wedding spreads, leading Robert and Linda to reminisce about their own wedding. Meanwhile, Theo arrives with a hand-drawn picture for Josh, including Stacey. Josh is touched.
Evan pulls Linda aside for a conversation. While he has cherished their time together, he realizes he’s not her forever person. It’s clear to him that she and Robert belong together.
Connie confides in Nai Nai about awaiting test results. Nai Nai immediately makes a phone call, demanding an update. Connie is touched by her support.
Annie attempts to explain her past actions to Max, but he surprises her with a kiss on the cheek.
Ted confesses to Nai Nai that Marcus is actually his fiancé and that he’s gay. Nai Nai, unsurprised, explains that she wasn’t upset about his identity but rather about his dishonesty. She assures him she loves him and thinks Marcus is wonderful. Ted tearfully apologizes.
Suddenly, the kids announce that the llama is missing. As Chuck rushes out to find it, Kevin arrives—leading the runaway llama. Chuck swallows his pride, apologizes, and invites Kevin inside.
Marcus joins Nai Nai to apologize for the tension, but she blames her family. When he gently suggests she might be too strict, she simply excuses him.
Katie and Gaby finish recording her audition video just as Kevin walks in. They apologize, reconcile, and Katie re-accepts his proposal.
Meanwhile, Robert presents Linda with two tickets to Norway to see the Northern Lights. He declares his desire for a future with her, and they share a heartfelt kiss.
Connie receives a call from the doctor—her test results are negative. Overcome with relief, she announces that everything is fine. It will truly be a Merry Christmas.
Stacey realizes that while this might be his forever home, it isn’t hers. She believes they still make a great business team. Before leaving, she tells Nora she has an incredible son.
Nai Nai reassures Ted and Marcus that she will happily witness their wedding whenever they’re ready. Inspired, the couple decides to get married today. The entire neighborhood bands together to make the impromptu wedding perfect.
As the celebrations unfold, Josh confesses his love to Nora, and she joyfully reciprocates with a kiss.
Cole arrives, and Lucy takes a chance—asking him out—and he accepts.
Finally, everyone gathers for Ted and Marcus’ wedding. Wally officiates, pronouncing them husband and husband. The night ends with everyone raising a toast and capturing a perfect holiday group photo together.
