Risteárd Cooper is currently appearing in the recurring role of D.S. Morris in “The Inheritance” for C5 which is their most watched drama series for this year. He is also featured in “The Power” as recurring character Declan Blease opposite Toni Collette and John Leguizamo which is currently available on Amazon. Cooper recently appeared in Stephen Frear’s “Quiz” opposite Matthew Macfadyen for ITV and in ITV’s “Too Close” opposite Emily Watson. He most recently appeared on stage at the Almeida Theatre in Shipwreck.
He played James Harley in “Delicious” opposite Dawn French on Sky TV and has been one-third of comedy team “Après Match” since 1998. He appeared as singing serial-killer Laurie Gaskell in Channel 4’s “No Offence,” Charles Doyle in “Houdini and Doyle,” Sir Henry Coverley in The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher and Finbar in Conor McPherson’s The Weir directed by Josie Rourke at the Donmar Warehouse and the West End.
At the Abbey Theatre he played Higgins in Pygmalion, Joxer in Juno and The Paycock (also at the National Theatre, London) Pyper in Observe The Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, as well as lead roles in numerous productions at the Gate Theatre, including Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Arcadia, An Ideal Husband, Blithe Spirit, The Deep Blue Sea, Betrayal and Brian Friel’s The Yalta Game at the Sydney and Edinburgh Festivals. For Steppenwolf in Chicago, he played Mickey in the American premiere of Jez Butterworth’s Mojo directed by Ian Rickson.
Other TV and Film work includes Extra Ordinary (Blinder Films), the IFTA nominated “Après Match of the Day,” “The State Of Us” (co-written with Gerry Stembridge), “Charlie,” Batman Begins, American Women, “This is Ireland,” “BitterSweet,” Chasing the Lions and TG4’s “An Crisis,” a six-part Irish language comedy.
Risteárd also writes and performs his own comedy web series, “Risteard’s Republic.”
