Born in Montreal, Patrick Sabongui grew up in a trilingual household, speaking French, English and Arabic. He is a devoted advocate for diversity and equality in the arts and media.
Sabongui is currently shooting the final season of Showtime’s “Shameless,” in which he plays the character of Martin opposite Ethan Cutkosky. Most recenetly audiences have enjoyed him in Netflix’s new hit “Firefly Lane” based on the popular novel by Kristin Hannah. Sabongui plays Chad Wiley, Katherine Heigl’s love interest.
On television Sabongui is best known as Captain (now Chief) David Singh in The CW’s “The Flash,” Reda Hashem in Showtime’s “Homeland,” Judah in Epix’s “Get Shorty,” Russ Millman in ABC’s “The Good Doctor” and Yusuf Ali in USA’s “Shooter”.
Sabongui’s film roles include Zack Snyder’s films 300, Watchman and Sucker Punch, Jason Bourque’s political thriller Drone opposite Sean Bean, Mike Mosallam’s Breaking Fast, as well as blockbuster hits Interrogation, Power Rangers and Godzilla.
His background as a competitive athlete, martial-artist and mountaineer has added a dimension of action to many of his roles. On regional stages, he is known for the Canadian premiere of Ayad Akhtar’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Disgraced, and for originating the role of Foster Bryant in the World Premiere of Inside the Seed.
Recently Sabongui was offered the coveted position of head of BFA Acting in the CUNY– Brooklyn College Department of Theater. Brooklyn College is recognized as one of the most diverse student populations of any University in the United States (and the World). Sabongui is also the founder and co-lead instructor at the Actor’s Center for Transformation (ACT Vancouver). As a fierce advocate for anti-racism and representation in the arts, Sabongui is co-chair of the the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the Union of British Columbia Performers and the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, TV and Radio Artists (UBCP/ACTRA) and on the Diversity Committee for the Jessie Richardson Awards (British Columbia’s Theatre Recognition Awards).
As President and co-founder of Life Force Films Inc., a production company dedicated to amplifying the voices of women and BIPOC filmmakers, he has produced, directed and executive produced several award-winning short films such as Chained, The Prince, Ariel Unraveling, Spirit Glitch, An International Girl and The Letter Carrier (the directorial debut of Jesse L. Martin). He has also fostered the development of feature-length films and television series and continues to develop new works as a filmmaker and theatre artist.
