Frances Fisher began her acting career at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. She later appeared in the soaps, The Edge of Night and Guiding Light. On the New York stage, she starred in plays by Noel Coward, Caryl Churchill, Joe Orton, Arthur Miller, Sam Shepard, Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams, and many others. She studied with Stella Adler and became a lifetime member of the Actors Studio. In the blockbuster film Titanic (1997), Fisher played Kate Winslet’s aristocratic mother. Additional significant feature credits include Unforgiven, House of Sand and Fog and In the Valley of Elah.
