JoBeth Williams / Charlotte Smith

JoBeth Williams is a Texas native who studied at Brown University hoping to become a child psychologist. Acting attracted her, though, and she trained at Rhode Island's Trinity Repertory Company. She got work on the soap "Guiding Light" and then made a breakthrough appearance opposite Dustin Hoffman in "Kramer vs. Kramer." Subsequent hit films included "Stir Crazy," "Poltergeist," "The Big Chill," and "Teachers." More recent films include "Welcome Home" (1989), "Switch" (1991), "Wyatt Earp" (1992), "Fever Pitch" (2005), and "The Big Year" (2011). Her many memorable television films include "Adam," "Baby M," "The Day After," "Murder Ordained," and "Breaking Through." She played James Woods' wife in Hallmark Hall of Fame's "My Name is Bill W." Williams also had an Emmy-nominated guest-star role on "Frasier," was Dexter's future mother-in-law on "Dexter," and played Kate Walsh's mother on "Private Practice."
