How to Tie the Perfect Holiday Bow
What Bows Are We Making Today?
We’re going to teach the viewers at home how to make two different kinds of bows: a Stand Alone Bow called the "Graduated Loop Bow," and a Box Bow called the "Bunny Ear Box Bow."
How Do We Make The "Graduated Loop Bow?"
This one couldn’t be simpler. You take a length of ribbon; it can be several feet, depending on how big you want your bow. Just remember to leave enough ribbon for the tails
How Do You Make The Loops?
Fold the ribbon over on itself, leaving a loop on each end. Each layer should have a larger loop on it until you have about 4 or 5 layers. Leave enough ribbon at the bottom layer to make your tails.
How Do We Finish The Bow?
Tie a bow with ribbon, or use a floral wire around the center of the bow to secure the bow. Then pull the loops out and fan them out to get the full bow look.
How Do We Make The "Bunny Ear Box Bow?"
First we need to wrap the box. We will wrap the ribbon around the whole length of the box, leaving enough ribbon at the end for the bow. The ends should meet at the top of the box.
At the top of the box, fold down one of the ends of the ribbon where the ends meet in the middle. Hold the fold with your thumb as you wrap the ribbon around the width of the box, and bring the ribbon al the way back up to the top center of the box.
The bottom of the box should be a perfectly smooth plus sign.
Cross the end you just brought up over the center, and hook it underneath the original fold. When you pull each end tight it should form a center point of tension from which we will form our bow.
How Do We Make The Bow?
Create two equal length loops on each side. Cross the left loop over the top of the right loop. Tuck the left loop back under the right loop on the bottom side of the right loop and pull the left loop through. You can pull and tighten, and loosen and pull and tighten again, as many times as you need to find the perfect length for your bow.
How Do We Get Those Perfect Tails?
Snip the tails to the length you want. Just make sure they are a good 4 inches longer than the bow. To get that "V" we like in the end of the tails, fold the ribbon in half and cut it diagonally across the fold, in the direction toward the fold.
As a special treat, I have a bonus bow tutorial that you can only see on our facebook page. I’ll teach you how to make the "Puffy Bow." Check it out at facebook.com/homeandfamilyshow. and check out our pintrest page for a complete tutorial on all three bows, pinterest.com/homeandfamilytv.
