Recently widowed Mary Bassett and her children have hit difficult times on their farm, and things are getting worse. Suddenly, Mary’s wealthy and estranged mother Isabella comes to visit. Although Isabella finds a kindred spirit in Mary’s eldest daughter, Mary resents her mother’s attempts to help them out of their financial difficulties.
